Qualcomm Claims NextG Patents
by Peter Suciu on May 11, 2007

qualcomm.JPGQualcomm is laying claims for more than 1,000 essential patents, reports mocoNews. These include patents for OFDM, OFDMA (OFDM Access), and MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) technologies, and this means that the next generation of mobile technology could be controlled by Qualcomm, with the company demanding royalties on whichever of these technologies is used. One exception said Bill Davidson, senior vice president of investor relations and international marketing at Qualcomm, is WiMax, which Davidson doesn’t believe is as good as other mobile technology.
