youtube.jpgYou Third Screen? Is that the future for You Tube? According to AP that’s exactly what YouTube’s co-founder Steve Chen may have in mind. Bringing the video-sharing site to the mobile platform by next year could be the next frontier for the company, but what this means for the YouTube service already offered by mobile carriers such as Verizon and Vodafone is a lot less clear. Perhaps Chen sees the benefit of the rising youth market, which we reported about yesterday. And let’s not forget about the vast international markets, where computer ownership isn’t quite so common but everyone has a mobile phone. Finally these people will be able to see home-made videos and sitcoms from the 1970s!

YouTube will be available on mobile phones by next year, co-founder Chen says [AP]

  • I actually emailed Google about our project which allows downloading of YouTube videos to mobile phones last January — since there are tons of FLV downloaders already out there (I even listed the top 10 downloader sites); its just a matter of converting them on the fly to 3gp format; but I got this reply from the YouTube team:

YouTube currently does not allow downloading of videos. Further, services that circumvent our security in order to download FLV files are a direct
violation of our Terms of Use, as outlined in section 4, “Intellectual
    Property Rights” located at: http://www.youtube.com/t/terms

“The content on the YouTube Website, except all User Submissions (as
defined below), including without limitation, the text, software, scripts,
graphics, photos, sounds, music, videos, interactive features and the like
(”Content”) and the trademarks, service marks and logos contained therein (”Marks”), are owned by or licensed to YouTube, subject to copyright and other intellectual property rights under United States and foreign laws and international conventions. Content on the Website is provided to you AS IS for your information and personal use only and may not be used, copied, reproduced, distributed, transmitted, broadcast, displayed, sold, licensed, or otherwise exploited for any other purposes whatsoever without the prior written consent of the respective owners. YouTube reserves all rights not expressly granted in and to the Website and the Content. You agree to not engage in the use, copying, or distribution of any of the Content other than expressly permitted herein, including any use, copying, or distribution of User Submissions of third parties obtained through the Website for any commercial purposes. If you download or print a copy of the Content for personal use, you must retain all copyright and other proprietary notices contained therein. You agree not to circumvent, disable or otherwise interfere with security related features of the YouTube Website or features that prevent or restrict use or copying of any Content or enforce limitations on use of the YouTube Website or the Content therein.”

Thank you for bringing this site to our attention.

    Hope this helps,

shux… Anyway, were just a small company so we had the project stopped but I still use it to download videos to my phone. Check out how it looks: http://corruptedpartition.blogspot.com/2006/12/mobile-adsense-following-up-youtube.html

Anyone up to challenge YouTube on this area, let me know :)

    Thanks MC
