Myxer Surpasses 3 Million Mark

myxer.jpgMyxer, a mobile content delivery company, announced that it has reached over 3 million users, making it one of the largest distributors of mobile content. In April of this year Myxer reached 1 million users and has tripled that number in less than six months. If growth continues at this pace, within ten years aliens in a galaxy far, far away will be downloading wallpaper and ringtones from Myxer.

Currently, more than 7 million pieces if mobile content are downloaded per month, at a rate of roughly 3 downloads per second. Myxer offers over 150,000 free ad-supported ringtones, wallpapers and videos. Users can make their own ringtones, videos and wallpaper from music and files a customer already owns.

“We think that reaching this milestone so quickly is a statement about how easy our platform and mobile content site are to use, and is also a clear confirmation of the growing demand for mobile content in general,” said Myk Willis, founder and chief technology officer of Myxer. “Our continued growth will be fueled by our aggressive recruitment of content partners, user adoption of new content types like video and over-the-air song downloads, and the vast international opportunity we are just beginning to tap into.”

  • I have not seen one Myxer ad on television, and so I am surprised that it has over 3 million users! What is its mode of advertising? I have not heard of Myxer until today.

  • The barrier to entry is very low in MyxerTones. One of the best services from user perspective. No software to install, uploads and downloads using the browser. Hopefully MyxerTones can deal with potential copyright issues of shared content.

  • hmmm, difficult to say whether they can navigate the challenges to grow on this model. Tying into Facebook is a good move for word of mouth marketing, and like YouTube (& other 2.0 sites), bringing in media providers as partners will help avoid IP issues and raise the offering beyond the all too common UGC sites. Marketing & promotion are tougher (more costly) issues, and from the users commenting on their site, it seems mainly US traffic still. interesting one to watch!

    Yeah, the growth is great, and we have a very small marketing budget. Most of our growth has come from word of mouth, and from people posting our MyxerTags widget on their websites, etc.

    Continuing the growth is always a concern, but all we can really do is constantly focus on creating the best experience for our visitors. We have faith that if we deliver a great product in an easy to understand package, people will continue to visit our site and recommend us to their friends.

    We’re also aggressively looking for and signing up “non-traditional” content partners. People like Amie Street and other websites that have a lot of content on their website, and would like to ‘go mobile’ with the minimal amount of hassle. Because the Myxer platform is so dynamic, we can make all of the existing content a website has (audio files, images, video clips, etc.) available as mobile downloads completely dynamically. So we’re having a lot of fun as we use the power of Myxer to deliver content from other web properties.

    Most of the traffic is, indeed, US-based. We’ve actually not done any proactive outreach outside of the US until quite recently — you’ll start to see the numbers shift in the months ahead as European countries come on line.
