Nokia Siemens Networks will buy British network management firm Apertio for 140 million euros ($205 million) the companies announced today. The buyout is expected to take place in May of this year.
Apertio is a company that specializes in network management applications for telecommunications operators. Software allows operators to authenticate and deliver applications to users, shut off lost handsets and collect real-time data on subscribers.
Managing subscriber data is becoming more important as operators offer “converged” services. Converged is a term that relates to offerings that combine mobile, fixed-line and Internet based services.
After the deal is closed Apertio’s CEO, Paul Magelli, will head a new section within the Converged Core business of Nokia Siemens. Apertio’s software and equipment is currently used by such operators as Orange, T-Mobile, O2 and Vodafone.
