Virgin Mobile USA offers its first Samsung Handset
by John Kullman on May 19, 2008

Virgin Mobile USA is now offering the Samsung handset, Slash, for $79.99. This is the first collaborative effort between the two companies.

Slash comes equipped with a VGA camera, Bluetooth wireless technology, and full messaging capabilities; including IM, text messaging and email. Features include an integrated speakerphone, voice-activated dialing and a color display. The memory can hold up to 499 contact entries. Each entry can list up to five phone numbers, two e-mail addresses and one website. Slash comes preloaded with Autotext for those of us who like to text message.

If you like games, Slash comes with Gameloft Jukebox and a demo of Superscape. The handset is able to access the VirginXL portal which has content like animated and real music ringtones and ringbacks. If music is your thing Slash gives you access to Virgin Mobile’s Headliner, a mobile music magazine that gives on-demand information to music-related content like artist news, charts and concert dates.

Slash also comes preloaded with a Spanish-language user interface.

The handset only weighs 3-ounces and has a battery life of up to 3.5 hours of talk time and 170 hours of standby time. Just like other offers from Virgin Mobile USA, customers don’t have to sign annual contracts to pick Virgin as their service provider.
