Now that the Ocean 2 has slipped back until January of ‘09 at the earliest, we’ve cruised right by the September confidentiality date of the original FCC filing back in March. As a result, a handful of hardware photos and a whole slew of details have made their way out.
Along with the obvious aesthetic similarities, the handset borrows the dual-slide concept of the original Ocean, offering both a number pad and a QWERTY keyboard. It’s got a 2 megapixel shooter, QVGA screen, EVDO 3G, and Bluetooth/microSD support. While the Ocean II still rocks the Helio logo in these shots, it’s up in the air whether or not Virgin Mobile will be swapping their own branding in now that they’ve acquired the company.
Check out all the shots after the jump.

It looks like a black version of Apple’s Mighty Mouse (worst mouse ever).
The phone looks ok, i have never been a fan of their products. The one good quality if you just need a phone is its small size
Looks slick. Too bad it’s for Helio.
I can’t really comment on the phone. I’m getting distracted by the reflection of the semi-naked man in the third picture!
Since it will be running on the Sprint network, I’d love to be able to run it on my current Sprint service. Sadly, that is very unlikely to come to pass. :o(
The keyboard seems pretty annoying. Can’t imagine myself typing on that..
I have had the Helio Ocean for over a year and a half, and other than being a very delicate phone, had it replaced 3 times already with the insurance, it is fantastic. The keyboard is easy to use and the service has been awesome. I don’t see very much of a difference, the delicate part is the dual slider, when it drops and the open at the same time, not good.
I’ve had the Helio Ocean for a while now and I love it! I got a rubberized case for it so I was able to keep it in good shape. I had a little trouble finding one, but I also finally found a screen protector. If truth be know, I’d bet a lot of money on the people that do this: “oh my gosh, I had to replace it a bazillion times and the customer service sucks…. ehhhh, *more whining*” weren’t taking very good care of the phone. Their service is amazing. I used to have a Blackjack and it didn’t get very good service because of the slightly less powerful device and so I switched to a cheaper slider. But, since Helio uses CDMA (same as Verizon, US Cellular, Sprint, and Alltel) I’m able to get service almost anywhere. Even up to the ski resort where nobody but those named services work! =D I can’t say I have anything bad to say about the company. The service is great, the phones are great, and the plans are simple, afforable, & taylored to whatever I need! How could you have anything bad to say about this company? I find it hard to believe that anything bad comes from a company that got over 70,000 subscribers within the first 2 years of being in business. Hmmm… might think that if they were as terrible as some of you say… a lot more people might know about it. But, that’s just my observation. Definately worth switching over from anybody you’re currently with. =D
helio rocks!!! can’t wait to have the oz2 in my hands. i like the fact that it is smaller than the 1st one and more sleek. if you get 1 for free send it to me lol
