Rumor: Verizon’s HTC Touch Diamond may launch in October

It’s been a while since we’ve heard news about the HTC Touch Diamond’s Verizon debut. According to a tip sent into PhoneDog, Verizon’s Diamond model should launch sometime in October, and it might (italics for wariness) be that “Ice White” version we heard about just a few days ago.

The tipster confirmed some of the specs (400mhz processor, microSD support) we’d heard previously, and mentioned a few new details: like Sprint’s release of the Touch Diamond, Verizon’s Diamond will come out of the box with a larger battery (1340mAh) than the standard model; as a result, this handset gets the same additional 3mm of thickness that we saw with Sprint’s. Nothing wrong with puttin’ a bit of meat on them bones for the sake of reasonable battery life, right?

  • Call me a Luddite, but I’m still struggling with the whole ‘touch’ angle. Yeah, the iPhone is nice and all, but I’d rather have buttons that go click and a grease free screen, thanks.

  • I’m with you, Glen. Touch isn’t there yet.

Having said that, I’m currently testing out the XV6900, and it’s better than I thought it would be. If the Diamond has better touch capabilities, it may be a winner. Though, I’m inclined to hold out for the Pro.

  • I am a current Instinct owner…the price $129, the touch screen, and navigation are excellent…BUT it’s the iphone’s browser that takes it beyond everything out there so far. For me the apps are an added bonus. I have heard nothing but good thing thought on the Diamond and I am looking forward to actually seeing what it brings to the table. STRONG BROWSER, and JAVA ENABLED will make it a true contender.

  • It’s a bloody shame verizon has to cripple all their best phones. Although I prefer their network here in CA, it seems I have no other choice but to move to another carrier or drop ~700$ on an unlocked phone to get what I want.

  • I am with Paul. I dont want to pay $700 for the unlock version of the phone I want, but there is no option to get the phone I want on the carrier I want. UNLOCK ALL THE PHONES!!! No one asks the customer these days! I am a happy T-Mobile gal with no great choices to look forward to in the near future. Not even rumors, while everyone else is launching products I want. After 10 1/2 years with the same carrier, which is UNHEARD OF these days, I dont have a choice but to leave, and I very disappointed.

  • Verizon couldn’t release a new phone if the future of their customer base depended on it. When they finally released the Touch, it was WHITE. What a marketing coup that was. I was at the Verizon store recently, returning an XV6800 before 30 day trial ended because it sucks, and was told the “corp reps” coincidentally were there to resolve any problems I was having. They told me “don’t switch carrieries yet, we have some great phones releasing around the holidays”. This from the people who released the “all new Palm Centro” 8 months after it was released by Palm. They’re like a plane that leaves 2 hours late but you’re told it arrived early, because it made up time in the air. Verizon I’m done waiting, YOU’RE FIRED!

  • anyway rich i dont think vrizon will care about you,i love vrizon

  • Any updates on this? It’s now November and I’m still waiting…

  • I was told fairly recently that the HTC Diamond wouldn’t be out until some time in March ‘09. The Bold for VZW was supposed to come out prior to the Storm however that never happened. Then the reports were that the Bold was due out in early January ‘09 and last weekend I was told by a source at VZW store (which had RIM employees on hand training for the Storm release) that the Bold may not be released for VZW at all. I was looking for the Bold over the Storm based on my impression that the Storm will just have too many issues w/ the touch screen keypad. Now I guess I’ll just wait for the Curve to be offered up for FREE rather than pay $250 for the Storm to just be disappointed. VZW needs to get their *#(@ together already!! AT&T is taking control of the industry!

  • I got the HTC Touch Diamond two months ago, it took me some getting used to, but i really enjoy the phone. Here’s some observations of mine:
    Pro’s
    -Excellent organizer functions
    -Easy to navigate/customize
    -Great sound quality (on calls)
-EASY texting (you can change keyboard styles)
-Vibrations are strong enough to notice through my jeans (never found a phone with strong vibrations before)

    Con’s
-I get 2 days battery life out of mine, with moderate use
-The interface is laggy, it takes a second or two for anything to load (doesn’t bother me that much though)
-The icons are confusing to learn, everything is labelled with pictures, not words

I’ve had a few cell phones, but this is my first jump to a smartphone and i’m very pleased. Web browsing is a charm, just make sure to use the Opera browser, not internet explorer!
