Timberland, makers of boots and outdoor wear, and GSI Commerce, the e-commerce company behind the online presence of Timberland and many other companies, might just owe you some money.
After a heap of unauthorized ad-filled text messages were sent out between January 2003 and August 2008, frustrated recipients banded together for a class action lawsuit. Though the companies insist that the blame belongs on a third-party who had been tasked with securing recipient consent, they’ve agreed to pay $7 million towards reimbursing anyone who received the unsolicited texts, with a cap of 150 bucks per recipient. That’s a lot of boots.
If you’ve received any unsolicited SMS advertisements from Timberland or GSI commerce, you can apply for your reimbursement here.

Oh man, if only we could sue the real SMS spammers. No, I don’t need a new auto warranty.
First I thought you were talking about the crappy American singer..
Who is the other company that they were relying on to validate the customer opt-ins?
I dug around a bit to no avail. I’m not sure if that was publicly disclosed.
That is some serious bucks….
Or unserious bucks to a serious number of people. Probably the latter.
so glad that I don’t have any SMS spam. *knocks on wood*
On one hand, I’m glad this is happening, because the recipient of messages have to pay. However, I’d be all too willing to see sms go the way of the dodo for a better system of communication (instant messaging)
