Forgetting that quantity doesn’t necessarily mean quality, Verizon has packed the basic functionality of 10 different social sites into one little app they’re calling “SocialLife”.
Besides the loss of pride that might come from needing a ten bladed social site swiss army knife, the application will only set you back $1.49 per month and carries support for Myspace, Photobucket, Livejournal, AsianAve, BlackPlanet, FaithBase, GLEE, MiGente, Rabble and MTV Tr3s. Now, raise your e-hand if you (actively) use the majority of those. Myspace, Photobucket, sure. Livejournal? I still know a person or two lurking around those parts. But the last seven? Not to seem unnecessarily rough on the niche communities, but where’s the support for Twitter, Facebook, and other sites people actually use?

We will call it “SocialLack”
Their worthlessness will conveniently keep people from overusing the network.
Don’t a lot of people still use myspace?
I really don’t know. I don’t use any of them, but it seems like I still hear a lot about it.
What about opera mini? :P it can do all of this, plus facebook and twitter and everything else, for free!
Sorry Stefan. Opera Mini’s a no-no on Verizon dumbphones.
It’s a damn shame too.
no FB or Twit?? Sheesh… thats pretty sad!
“loss of pride” would be “lots of pride”?
Enough with all these social networks already.
How could you use Myspace on a mobile device? Myspace is so chock full of ads they’d never fit on such a tiny screen.
My problem with Social Network aggregation is the user experience. Verizon has gone down the path of “we need to be in it, but we cant be f%4ked with it.”
This application takes a scalpel to feature sets and UI’s of made for mobile services… let alone web-to-mobile services. The business model is floored too, but I am not going to go down that path.
The content aggregation business is not something that will survive for too long. Businesses are cashing in the extreme short run. And Verizon also missed Twitter, Linkedin, etc.

I have never used most sites other than facebook.
twitter is sms based and the majority of these sites can be reached via wap all of which is cheaper. This is nothing to even write about. I myself have just wasted 30 seconds of my own commenting.
2 categories of people who use any product : one who just use it and never voice an opinion and keep cribbing; second who speak up and don’t crib. Online offerings are services and i think you should not think you just wasted time commenting.
i would have used myspace, but that was like a year ago… so only think would be facebook.
yeah, where’s our dear Facebook?
