HP has a new WinMo 6.1 Touchscreen handset in the works – return of the Oak?

Back in January, word got out of a new WinMo 6.1 touchscreen handset floating around the Hewlett Packard labs. Called the Oak and tentatively set for a September launch on Vodafone, it had a number pad on its face and a slide-out QWERTY keyboard packed away underneath. Unfortunately, all’s been mum on the matter since the initial leak. September came and went, and the Oak didn’t make an appearance.

Turns out it may have just required a bit more time on the drawing boards. The rumor mill is churning out talk of a new HP-made WinMo 6.1 device for launch sometime in the next two months. European launch? Check. Touchscreen and keypad? Check. While no one has outright stated it’s the Oak (and no one’s outright saying it has QWERTY, either), we’d hope so. The Oak would have been one of HP’s more sightly handsets, so it’d be a shame to see it kicked under the rug.

  • This is a dead product before it comes out. HP is notorious for making bad consumer service and product. I had my HP inkjet printer broke so many times, I am scared to buy anymore of HP product. I heard how consumers were outrage by HP decision to shutdown its storage service after it took money from consumers promising a year’s worth of service.

    Die HP, die!

  • this is exactly what i’ve been waiting for — a touchscreen with a number keypad on the front and a slide-out qwerty keyboard. i hope this one comes through!

  • Note to HP- include the classic HP12C calculator interface

    Best product you ever made.

  • I really tried to like HP mobile devices, had several models with the latest being an IPAQ HW6965 as my only phone for 12 months. It would have been a great device if everything had worked as it was supposed to. But when the hour glass comes up in the middle of typing a txt message and it leaves out half the letters you type, or when the hour glass comes up when a call is coming in and you miss the call, or when you answer a call and the speaker phone comes on for no apparent reason, enough was enough. Now using a Blackberry Bold and, so far, breathing a sigh of relief.

  • Die HP Die!????

I have had multiple printers over the years from HP and they had all been bullet proof for me. I have had laptops and servers in our business and they all have been good devices. The only thing that I can come up with is you must have bought the very low end devices…..

I have had the iPAQ 69xx and it wasn’t good, I didn’t like the device but I now have a 514 and it works a treat for push email and its cheap so I am looking forward to the new device to see if they get better again.
