When we had our surprise hands-on with the Slacker for iPhone application a few days ago, the rep mentioned that it could be available “as soon as tomorrow”. Well, just a mere 5 tomorrows later, their prophecy has come true. Apple has greenlit the application, and now nothing stands between you and the customized internet radio goodness.
What it can do:
-Free music library featuring millions of songs
-High-quality stereo playback from any wireless connection
-Over 100 professionally programmed genre stations
-Create custom artist stations
-Fine tune stations to play more of the music you like
-View artist biographies and photos
-View album art and reviews
-”Peek Ahead” artist and album preview
-Pause and skip songs
-Rate songs as favorites
-Ban the songs and artists you don’t like
What it can’t do:
- Fight bears
- Solve criminal mysteries
Even if you’re a hardcore Pandora (or last.fm) devout, Slacker has plenty of features that make it worth checking out. Nab it from your local Stevie J’s Tunes and Vids here.

Blast! It’s not available in Canada yet.
BTW, it’s free. :-)
This is great! There’s a Find Music screen. If you want to hear a song or band, just type in the name of song/band and it will play it! It creates a radio station based on what you entered, but it usually plays what you entered first. Nice!
Why are you promoting this app with so many entries, based on what you write there are many similar radio apps in app store: Pandora, Radio, Ihear, AOL, FlyCast, Virgin, etc. This is another example to TC cronyism , or shady editorial / commercial sense.
Dictionary: cronyism (krō’nē-ĭz’əm) : Favoritism shown to old friends without regard for their qualifications, as in political appointments to office.
Yes. Slacker = our best friends. That’s why we had to walk across vegas, attend a rather packed event, and ask politely to see the application so that we could bring back screenshots a few days ago.
Slacker is entering a competitive field, they’re a company people are interested in, and this application is brand spankin’ new. Dozens of companies make digital cameras - should CrunchGear stop covering them just because there’s so many?
People ask us about Slacker, so we bring back news on it when we can. Simple as that.
And not available in Mexico either :( Somebody should tell developers that there’s iphone users outside the US…this, plus google mobile app are the two things that I really regret not being able to get :/
Finally! I have been waiting for the best radio service to come to my iPhone. I have been using it all day and I am lovin’ it. Thanks Slacker!
