A prototype of an upcoming HTC Touch Diamond device, powered by the yet-to-be-released Windows Mobile 6.5, was stolen from a Telstra executive after the company’s CEO Sol Trujillo demoed the phone at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. Apparently, the device was loaded with secret product information, sparking Sky News to claim there’s a major security scare going on at Microsoft. We’re not entirely sure if it was a random pick-pocket, but we’re pretty sure it wasn’t these guys.

I’m assuming someone tried calling the phone… :-)
Mhmmm, all this technology yet, they can use GPS to track it… =/
I’m sure they’ll return it as soon as they realize it runs WinMob.
GPS…hmm…oh yeah….well, you see, we kind of mocked up the GPS functionality for the HTC demo. Wasn’t quite working yet. We figured nobody would notice until the 2nd or 3rd service pack.
Didn’t Ballmer say
wrt the new Windows Mobile service (that backs up all your personal data) “it doesn’t matter if it gets stolen”. So what’s all the fuss about then?

Do they have remote wipe?
I did hear that during MWC, Barcelona becomes the most likely to place to mugged in Europe!
Sounds like some good viral publicity.
Mystery => Intrigue => Word of Mouth => Publicity (where we are now) => Recognition => Sales => Revenue => Power => Control => World Dominion!
Easily solved, just wait a day or so and the people that lifted it will need to call MS for support.
Yes, knowing the real power of MS is marketing strategy (not necessarily for good product), I agree that your point makes sense
Too bad they had to add that little secret with the Phone demo.

Barcelona is a dangerous place :-)
Can’t they track it?
Must have been David Niven, and we all thought he was dead.
Is it just me or did the GUI look incredibly laggy and slow to respond (not to mention the double and triple attempts to click on a button). It’s far from the near-instant reactions of the iPhone.
Something so simple that matters so much.
You must not own an iPhone. Nothing near instant about it. Constant lagging, stalls, software crashing, maybe MS will bring some quality software to phone market.
oh my god, what a beatifull diamond
Did anyone look in Ballmers butt crack? I’m sure they will find the HTC and probably an iPhone :) and maybe Jimmy Hoffa!

Who says that parasites don’t evolve? This is a brilliant way of getting a product out there that no one wants.
I think Bill Gates took it.
He is going to build a BASIC compiler to run on the phone with all the free time on his hands.

That is one sick phone. Wonder how the Win 6.5 will perform. I’ll definitely be checking this digital security site to review the critical parts.

And now they have that lawsuit.
