Tethering a mobile phone to a laptop was once was a laborious adventure into the depths of forums and hack sites. Eventually though, the task become a bit easier with just a few settings on both the phone and the notebook, but TetherBerry makes it even easier. Like stupid easy.

TetherBerry has been in beta for a while now and set to go retail at 1pm PT today so you may wanna jump on the beta quick to give her a test drive. You will be impressed.

The tethering task is completed with a small app being installed on both the BlackBerry and the PC. Once both of these small programs are fired up, you’re done. There isn’t any settings that needs adjusting on either the PC or mobile. It just works, and it’s not terribly slow.

I saw a speed of 1403 kb/s up and 584 KB/s down while testing the app this morning which is totally acceptable by my standards. Google Chrome loaded the pages fast and it worked great. This is seriously the easiest solution available. It’s too bad that there isn’t a OS X release or Bluetooth mode, but we have to imagine that those are coming soon. Hopefully.

  • Does this mean that I can bypass paying Verizon for the option of tethering?

    • dude, the software is like $60, that’s SIX months of paying for tethering at my provider…i can write am app myself for that…

  • Yeah, will I get in trouble from Verizon if I use this program to be on the internet all the time?

    • Verizon currently has a bandwidth cap for data plans of 5GB. I can’t speak of whether using this application and not paying Verizon the tethering charges is OK, but if you surpass the 5GB bandwidth cap, you will have problems.

  • Will this work with T-Mobile. My wife has a blackberry and is currently paying about $50 a month.

  • I have a blackberry storm with a Verizon account that has an unlimited data plan. Some sites have said you may have to get a code from your cellphone provider to get it to work, but what is their incentive to give me the code when I would otherwise have to pay them a monthly fee to connect to the internet with them? Do you know if it works on blackberry’s using Verizon?

  • I have an HP laptop with windows XP SP-3. I have tried for hours to find a Bluetooth connection. All of the research I’ve done advises to go to the Control Panel, and click on the Bluetooth Icon. I don’t seem to have one. I have opened almost everything in the Control Panel to no avail.
Is it possible to download a driver with it, or buy an external Bluetooth Receiver. I’m not sure if I even need it to run Tether, since I have a USB cord to connect my Blackberry Curve 8500 to my laptop.

Any advice or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank You for your time, R. Harper
