Samsung HD i8910 (OmniaHD) is a witch. [Plus a video sample]

It looks like Samsung might have hired the same folks responsible for their last Omnia viral video to conjure up one for the HD i8910 (which, depending on where you live, may or may not go by the OmniaHD.)

This one doesn’t seem quite as creative as the last one (though, as that one was a play on something us gadget bloggers do on a weekly basis, we might be a bit biased toward it), but it’s bound to get them some hits. After showing off the HD i8910’s video quality a bit (which, if you pop the embed into HD mode, doesn’t seem too shabby. Of course, it’s professionally tailored not to), they make the phone “disappear”, challenging the viewer to guess how it was done.

Be it witchcraft, slight of hand, or a homage to Duck Soup, we’ve leave the sleuthing up to you – but check after the jump for one of the oddities we noticed.

Either someone forgot to flip the S’s when they were setting up the “mirror”, or the HD i8910 is made by Samsung’s secret sister company, Zamzung. Spot anything else amiss? Let us know in the comments.

  • When the camera pans down at the mirror, the colored stripes on the roll of wrapping paper don’t match on the other side.

  • OK I noticed Three things. 1. There is an ornament behind him with letters A B and some other stuff, his head covers it almost all the time but about the end you can see it. The places of the letters are changed B A but B is in its right position. 2. When his girlfriend walks away and she should have been gone by the time he turns the phone. You still can see her walking away in the “mirror”. 3. When he touches the “mirror” the fingers does not match up.
    Verdict — NO MIRROR

  • At 1:00, he pans left and there is a noticeable delay between the “reflection” turning, and the video actually panning.

  • Yeah, there’s no mirror. The person holding the camera is a different person entirely. Same with the girl, she probably has a twin.

Also at the very end when it pans down from mirror to camera holder’s feet, the feet positions don’t match up.

  • yeah, there’s no mirror. check out the reflection of the ‘mirror’ on the phone itself at 1:26. if it’s a mirror image, his reflection should be on the right side of the phone’s glossy cover, not on the left side.

  • Look at 0:55 and pause. When his hand is only covering half the screen. You can clearly see that he in the mirror has taken his hand a longer way down than the man who’s filming. So clearly isn’t a mirror :)

  • Here’s the proof: http://i41.tinypic.com/pdvm.jpg

His hand is out of site, camera guy’s hand is still blocking the view. :-)

  • OK so everyone noticed all that stuff. But here’s a good one. Shouldn’t the lens be dead centre in that image? Its pointing down to me, which would obviously show what’s further down and not directly in front of the camera.

    • Yep. That “mirror” is likely some sort of display (LCD or PLASMA) playing a prerecorded and edited video. Using a video edit in the “mirror” video is how the phone disappeared from his hand in that one instant. The video we see was shot unedited in good sync with the first video playing inside the mirror.
