We only just opened the MobileCrunch Tips Line, and the stories are already pouring in. Keep’em coming, guys.
According to a source close to the matter, popular iPhone fitness app RunKeeper will soon be seeing a rebranding and website overhaul. We’ve obtained a screenshot showing most of the major changes, all of which seem to be visual at this point – but if nothing else, at least it’ll look pretty while you’re trying to de-fat yourself.
The new logo maintains the same color scheme as the original – but that’s about it. The sharp-edged, somewhat cheesy font of the original logo has been abandoned for a friendlier, rounded font. Additionally, they’ve opted to nix the strange RSS-icon-esque signal bars from the right side, filling the now free pixel real estate with the icon used within the app. It’s brighter and more inviting – overall, it’s a much better logo.
As with the new logo, much of new page design seems to be aimed at toning down the gloom factor. We’re fans of the RunKeeper application, but the dark blue background and accenting of the current design (see the screenshot at the base of this post for reference) depresses the hell out of us – not exactly a good thing, considering that the app is supposed to motivate you to go hoof off some poundage. The new design is much more inviting, with vibrant icons, rounded corners, and gradients aplenty. Its taken a while, but it looks like the design of the website will soon be on par with that of the iPhone app.
What do you think – better or worse?

MUCH better. Very nice redesign. Can’t wait to see it in action.
TC is now officially pathetic. The tip source and the post content verify this fact. TC = deadpool!
I’m a professional designer (logos included) and I’ve used RunKeeper. I don’t like the previous logo but I wouldn’t say the new one is all that great. Those lowercase e’s are pretty bad in that font and there’s some funky stuff happening with the white outline around the letters. I’m nitpicking but I tend to notice these things anyway.
I hope RunKeeper sees branding as a process and will continue to improve as they grow. Startups shouldn’t be so attached to a single logo until they really solidify their brand, which can take years.
Sorry, new logo is not an improvement. That said, the website is an improvement on an already good site IMO.
The automatic syncing of a run or bike ride to the website from the iPhone is ingeneous and other apps should take advantage of.
I think Jason and team did a great job with the redesign. A nice improvment on an already great app.
Clean and sleek. Like running in an iPod suit.
The new logo looks fat and stationary like a couch potato. The old one is hot, italicized and in action sending beams to a sattelite overhead. Don’t get too crazy RK.
How the hell does this make mobilecrunch? And the techcrunch page? Down hill…
Love run keeper. Vote for it!
The website was very functional, but looked a bit suckful, not one to show off to your friends. New website looks really nice, a definite improvement, though I’m more ambivalent about the logo.
I’m no techy, but I know “old school” when I see it…the old webpage seems dated to me. The new page is user-friendly and “this century,” the way I like it! Best of Luck, RunKeeper!!!
