good memory, a hefty amount of storage 32GB + 16GB external micro SD - qwerty keyboard - 5MP camera .. Quad Band. :D

Ovi Maps instead of Google Maps? Where are the precious facebook and twitter apps? :(

detailed sources: http://bit.ly/nokia-900-full-specs-details-best-or-worst

Its good to see Nokia finally release a new breed of their communicator series, I just hope it won't turn out to be another "average" phone.

Hi guys! I'm an avid fan of Nokia and Symbian phones from Philippines, and I'd like to share my interest in exploring new features in mobile technology particularly this new device and its Maemo platform for mobile communicators.

I'd like to witness how it performs well as a device, mobile communicator, and internet tablet, and be able to know what lies behind this new mobile OS.

I also want to know how worthy to have this device over the other existing and upcoming competitors and rivals in its level, and chat and meet people with the same interest.

I hope we can share each and everyone's knowledge on this stuff among all of electronic gadgets we've had. http://www.Nokia-N900.org offers just that.

The powerful processor lets you run everything smoothly and simultaneously. With Maemo there’s no need to waste time opening and closing different applications. This alone will give me excitement about the Nokia N900, share your opinions at http://www.Nokia-N900.org take care.

Looks and sounds great. My N97 has been acting up since purchase and is actually on its way back to Nokia now, for either repair or a replacement..Im thinking I will ask them to keep it, and add the money to the purchas of this device. I would like it if it were as wide as the 810. But thats just me..my last cell was a htc advantage with 5in. screen..loved the size..

I think what most of you who dislike the device are forgetting is this is not a phone. Also little hard to make comments on battery life when you don't know what size battery it'll take or what the operating systems energy usage will be like.

Devices of this size will change the future of portable living. Netbooks are the right size but their keyboards are weak at best. They are also plagued by trying to do too many "big computer" things. And even though they have a decent size, it's still not small enough but going any smaller would be a cause for re-design and really would put it more into the tablet arena anyway.

What this can do for communication and creating new ways of thinking of how were we do business will be pretty cool. CycloMobilism (a theory I'm working on) will shine more light on this soon. But I think it's time we live a little and the size of the device helps.

While I love my Blackberry and enjoy my Ipod Touch for being a remote for my musical library, quick tweets on the patio while having a beer, and brief chats with friends on Facebook, Skype, and so forth these devices still fall short. The Iphone, while a cute toy is not an efficient communication device for someone on the go trying to cut the tether from the office. Great for quick messages or being able to read emails remotely I almost threw mine against the wall when it came down to business.

Nokia will surprise you. The tablet they have still needs some work and teaching the possibilities to the customer as to what it can do is another hurdle for them. And maybe some other UMPC will beat them to it. Maybe not. But I suggest picking one of these up just to start getting the brain working on this. Because the possibilities are fascinating.

Also Nexox, you failed to even point out any possible strong points in the N900's design. You merely assumed that people are ignorant of the finer workings of the proposed device, rather than address the fact that the people who will use it, people like me, are being fucked over. If you intend to buy one, your being fucked over as well. It is not a happy developement. It is a horribly disappointing conclusion to an otherwise happy tale.

Oh yay, a new internet tablet...oh wait...it only shows a 10% improvement over the N810...wtf.

I expect a tablet that is capable of holding its own in a field that continues to progress at an unparalleled pace. The issue I have with the n900 is quite simply that it is falling behind. Cell phones are beginning to tout better capabilities than nokia's tablets, and this is not only absurd but entirely depressing. I love my n810, but the fact of the matter is...its too slow. The N900 will be just as slow. Sure, more memory, slightly better cpu perhaps, but no significant improvements. It's a disappointment. a 1ghz processor would have been a godsend.

The N series internet Tablets may be a niche gadget, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't be up to par with recent technological advances. To produce anything less than what nokia is capable of is a joke and an insult to consumers.

I am sick of talking about such a sub par product. Unless they seriously re-imagine this Tablet, I do not see a future for it. It'll be dead before it comes out.

At present...my N810 is adequate for what I use it for. If I'm going to upgrade...I want a significant improvement.

Any who argues with this is a complete moron. If you remain content to gobble up whatever piece of shit they throw at you then by all means...go right ahead.

As for me...I think I'll get a netbook and call it good. It's small and convenient. Utilizes multiple updates to computer technology, and if you put a linux os on them, I hear they run like a dream.

At least...until Nokia gets off their fat asses and comes up with a good, solid successor to the N810.

I have faith in the next generation of Tablets, but this incremental and slightly improved N900 is absolutely disgraceful.

After what Nokia did with the N810 Wimax edition, I have been increasingly critical of their Tablets.

N900 vs Netbook: I've got an N810 and a netbook, and I use the N810 far more. Can't be bothered to get the netbook out of my backpack, boot it up, wait for the miserably slow harddrive to figure out what's going on, etc.

People have to realize that the N900 and N810, etc probably aren't designed for them to use. There is a rather small portion of the human population that thinks these devices are pretty awesome, while inevitably imperfect, and they appreciate what Nokia is doing. Turns out most of you are talking about a device that wasn't designed for you to like it, and you want it turned into a completely different sort of device.

Doesn't make sense, it's like looking at a sports car and saying there's no point to it because it doesn't have 7 seats and can't tow a boat.

Really anything with Linux running and useful (Android's Linux is so hidden as to be pointless to the end user) is a good idea to me. I can get my command line, and compile my own apps, and port deal desktop applications with ease, then carry it all in my pocket and expect the battery to last for 4-5 days of moderate use. If that's not what you want, then why did you even read this article?

I can get my command line, and compile my own apps, and port deal desktop applications with ease, then carry it all in my pocket and expect the battery to last for 4-5 days of moderate use. If that’s not what you want, then why did you even read this article?

What a disgrace. The only true improvement I can see is that they've finally upgraded the internal memory to something larger than 1 gig. Finally people will get the "phone" they've been asking for. But its not a phone...its an internet tablet. And like its predecessor the n810 before it, it will most likely cost somewhere between 350-500 dollars. Which means...your losing 1ghz in processor speed. Forget about the n900. Wait until nokia starts listening a little harder to their user base and actually builds a machine we specify. If the machine can't keep up with a netbook, but cost more than one, its a waste of money.

The office suite situation can be dealt with by installing EasyDebian, as the previous poster mentioned, however, I've heard OpenOffice.org is rather slow (understandably). As for PIM, GPE PIM is decent, but really not integrated well into Maemo. If you're looking for good PIM, I'd recommend following the progress of the Seqretary suite (on maemo.org's downloads section); it's still in early stages, and only has a calendar/alarm and voice recorder at the moment, but it's already quite useable, and is going in the right direction.

Actually, you can install almost anything what is in Debian. That means, you can run OpenOffice.org or even KDE. However, I guess Abiword, Gnumeric and GPE's PIM suite available from Maemo's repositories are enough.

3.5inch screen is simply too small
4.8inch at minimum, or, even better, 6inch
(I wear cargo jeans for a 4 reasons -
My revered N9500, My almost as clever e90
and my not quite ready P8860.
We won't discuss the fourth reason here...)

Thanks -- I hadn't noticed that the batteries match when I was getting my new E71 up and running. That will make life much easier than the two-battery-type problem when I had an N95 & the N810...

"Move over Nokia N900, Archos Android is much better."

- Move over sliced bread, sausages and egg-muffins are much better!

"Move over Maemo, Android is much better"

- Give and take. both have pros and cons.

"Move over 3.5″ screens, 4.8″ screens are much better and still very pocketable."

- Move over 4.8" screen, 14" screens are WAY better and still pocketable if you're willing to stretch your pocket a bit more. And more importantly it might really impress the girls, if you know what I mean! ;-)

"Move over Flash memory, hard drives store 10x more for very little extra weight and size (especially using the tiny 1.8″ hard drives (easily up to 160GB and 240GB are available)"

- or even better! you can connect an external hardrive with USB, and carry it in your other pocket. The girls will now be gagging for it from all those bulges!

"Move over slide-out thumb pads, a thinner device with large 4.8″ touchscreen keyboard and with full sized foldable USB/Bluetooth keyboards are 10x faster to type on."

- If you put a metal frame around your torso, you attach a full size keyboard to it. Now you'll be typing 100X faster.

"Move over OMAP3430, OMAP3440 ads OpenGL advanced 3D rendering like on the upcoming Archos Android and the Open Pandora projects."

- Now I can definitely play that 3D game I couldn't on my last Archos!

"In fact, the upcoming XM5900 will offer nearly 99% of what N900 has to offer (except for the Mameo & Keyboard) with a much sleeker package and a HUGE battery at a FAR LESS price point."

99%? really? it runs maemo as well? nice high res screen with a proper web browser? full flash support? be able to run arbitrary apps? ... oh, you meant it might have a same res camera, and be able to play music and phone calls...

The n810 uses the same battery as the e71 so Nokia may very well use the same battery in the n900. That would be my guess but who knows with Nokia these days. They are becoming a jack of all trades but mastering none. Stick to one platform and develop the crap out of it or just jump on the Android wagon. Their hardware is always quality stuff.

The battery looks disappointing - my undoubtedly less powerful Nokia E71 has a 1500mAh battery, versus the suggested 1320mAh of the N900. I wonder how battery life will be with this handset.
