According to Palm’s little accessory guide here, non-Palm micro-USB charging solutions won’t work. What the hell? I can’t just plug it into my computer? That Touchstone dock is cool, but I don’t want to have to carry it everywhere I go. Besides, weren’t we supposed to all be moving towards a unified charging solution? I guess like with all highly-anticipated products (like Android, or the President), we have to be ready for some letdowns along the way.
Let’s hope it’s just a fib to sell more of Touchstones. There’s more Palm accessory stuff here, and plan info etc, so if you’re curious and the grill is still warming up, go do your thing.

Equally puzzling: why does the word “Require” have a capital-R?
Or what this proprietary “miro-USB” is that they speak of. :P
I saw this rumored all over the web the other day, but when you plug in another companies Micro-USB it seems to work just fine. I don’t know if it is like a Blackberry that just shows its charging when its really not (when used with certain other chargers), as I didn’t want to leave it in that long. But for sure it shows its charging.
This is just another way to make an extra buck.
I lol’d at the President comment. Obamuh ftl.
Well now that’s just not necessary… Universal is the way to go Sprint…
Standard BS disclaimer to so you people will be scared to go by a cheap 3rd party knock off I bet. If not, well way to reduce their value proposition.
This wouldn’t really surprise me. The two motorola phones in my household (PEBL/KRZR) require specific Motorola chargers in spite of having a micro USB port for charging. No other chargers will work and the Motorola chargers will not work for other devices. You can charge the devices using a PC, but only if the Motorola driver is installed.
Needless to say that this sucks in an epic way. I can say for sure that neither my wife nor I will ever buy a Motorola again as this annoys us quite a lot.
Looks like there’s an update to this:

…now they say it would be best for optimum performances to purchase original pieces… which is a common claim ;)
Have a great week
I tested this out on my Palm Pre. Third party chargers do work BUT your phone must be on and unlocked. If you use a pin or password to lock your phone, you must enter it if the phone is not already on and unlocked (PITA!). Using the Palm Pre Wall Charger, you just plug it in and it charges.
I’m still trying to find a definite 3rd party micro-USB wall charger that doesn’t cost $30+ nor a bunch of trial and error to charge this thing (combing the everythingpre and sprintusers forums!). I have a micro-USB charger for a Jabra bluetooth headset that physically plugs into the Pre, but doesn’t actually charge it. The Pre makes a little sound indicating something has been inserted, and it even SAYS and LOOKS like it’s charging, but in actuality it is not doing anything. Weirdness.
