		<description>Just a heads up - animals usually do go running off at full speed after getting shot.  Hunters are trained to stop after shooting, wait a little while, and then go try to track the animal.

Many people believe the movies: a gunshot stops you dead in your tracks.  But think about it, the target is hit with exactly the same force the rifle imparts on the shooter, and the shooter isn&#039;t thrown 20 feet back.  The shooter feels a strong punch in the shoulder.

So yes, even a shotgun slug to the gut of a bear would be very painful and life threatening in the long term, but the bear would be fully capable of running (or tearing into an nearby people).

This isn&#039;t theory - I&#039;ve seen big game animals hit squarely with large caliber rounds and go charging on as if nothing had happened.</description>
