We’ve all heard of “sexting,” when teens send nude photos of themselves to each other via text message (well, MMS). Schools don’t like it, parents don’t like it, but, apparently, it’s all the rage among young people these days. Well, it turns out that sexting really isn’t that big of a deal; it’s merely a continuation of the age-old tradition of “exploration” and all that. A 2009 version of spin the bottle, if you will.
Better yet, it turns out that sexting may be preferable to other activities. You can’t get a disease via MMS, now can you? You can’t get pregnant via MMS, now can you?
These are the conclusions of a paper that was presented at the 78th Congress of the Humanities and Social Sciences in Ottawa. Or, in the words of the associate professor who presented the paper:
… children and young people are sexual beings who have explored their sexuality in all times, and all cultures and all places.
Now let’s never complain about sexting ever again.

And when do these “sexted” images finally make their way to the internet like everyone claims they do.
I think you’ll find that’s Ottawa, On (Canada) not Ottawa, Or.
Check the sentence again. That’s the word “or,” not an abbreviation for Oregon.
“Or, in the words of the associate professor…”
Keep Hope alive, though.
Another comment I’d like to delete; more evidence of my stupidity preserved indefinitely. Sigh.
I get turned on by dolphins
Dang it! Now I gone and done it too. Curse these undeletable comments!
Other then sexting is more of a permanent item rather then spinning a bottle and kissing or making out. The data of sexting can be saved and brought out later.
These kids don’t realize those photos will follow them for the rest of their lives. Some of them will miss out on the better opportunities of their lives because of the electronic mistakes they commit now. And the spread of information and the internet need to be taught as something extremely serious like credit. Do you think if Sally and jenna knew their photos they sent to Jim for attention were going to be something their grandkids could google 40 years down the road they’d still send.. no.
You’ll never be president, or elected to any board of anything, unless it’s to be the big joke. These kids think “everyone is doing it” but thats nto the case… Everybody who is obsessed with the thoughts of others is doign it, but not the people who have an eye on their future and who have been properly educated.. This is another great downfall of our school system. yes it’s better than 11 year olds giving blow jobs on the bus as Oprah so lieks to point out every year or 2… but that doesn;t make it ok.
That would be liek saying the old man who slaughters a litter of puppies for amusement is ok because it wasn;t the genocide of an entire tribe in some far away land.
I am sorry but this subject really pisses me off a lot. This needs to be stopped immediately. Is nobody else afraid to have children. i know that “yes” you can raise your kids to be as smart and responsible as you choose, but there is no way to quell rebellious nature. in the past you wold say that you can teach them what they need to know and guide them then hope for the best and hope they’ve taken your advice; but now everything of the subject is different.
The only way to truly protect a child today in my opinion would be to keep them in a box until college and then hope they know what they need to know and are mature enough to not scorn their future with stupid social mistakes that are sheerly for simple pleasure or because they crave attention as part of their natural human spirit..
But then.. whats more wrong with the world.. these occurrences, or the fact that one small mistake could damn you for 50 years because of an over judgmental and liberal society? Look at people like Michael Phelps…He was almost stripped of his record number of olympic medals because he admitted to trying pot, in California of all places.
“The only way to truly protect a child today in my opinion would be to keep them in a box until college…”
I’ve heard this song…
It’s my kid in a BOX!!
No seriously….that scares me. I’ll be reading about you in the paper one day.
Is this any different than when you played house in the back yard with your friend? well, yes and no.
I didn’t get to compile electronic evidence
simple solution: add an app for Public/Private Key Encryption – send your smut to your pal, but they can’t print it, forward it or save it
we do this with e-mail – why would MMS be any different?
problem solved.
