Yes, the rumors are true: Nokia will start shipping its N97 device (they call it a mobile computer) to no less than 75 countries this month, after starting to accept pre-orders earlier last month. In the second half of 2009, Nokia plans to start rolling out a bunch of new features and functions, but right off the bat it will be the first device to come pre-installed with the recently launched Ovi Store. We hope the experience is better than the actual launch.
Nokia hasn’t detailed exactly which countries will start seeing N97 shipments roll in, but it’s safe to say they will most likely include most of the European markets, as well as North America.
The most interesting comment comes from Jonas Geust, Nokia’s vice president responsible for the N series handsets, who makes it clear that this device needs to sell hard for Nokia to deem it a success:
“This should not be a niche product,” Geust said in a Bloomberg interview. “Clearly our ambition is to have a similar success to the N95 family.” For the sake of comparison: the N95 has sold more than 10 million units as of the end of Q1 2009 according to the company.

Wow looks like another great mobile from nokia will this be launched in my country India
Are you stooopid Indian?
what great do you find in this phone?
Ya, iphone in india is too costly. And in nokia we can copy and play mp3 easily, just like any other file. Should yet to see price comparative to an iphone.
in India, ALL phones are expensive
Apple Shit & nSeries included
YUCK, what a worse phone. N97
E52 is much better and i bet, it will be far more economical to the $$$$$ pockets.
N97 is just a overpriced & overpraised $hyt like iPhone
disagree…
N97 is going to be the next revolution….excellent design, excellent utility….
although the current unlocked price is $599-$699 (dell.com)…it will soon come down…

it would be so cool if i can finally exchange my 9300 for something goooooood
Hope the finish product will be same as E55 to use ARM 11 600mz by the time the product launch or at least a better processor which everybody is still wait to see the show down between lately new launch product by other brand with this phone.
I will love to N97 if it works as stable as E71!
very unlikley
have you seen inconstancies in S60 V5?
Some times you tap once, some times you have to tap twice for the similar task!…
FAIL phone N97
E71 is fairly stable, hats off to that, only thing that E71 misses is the 3.5 mm Audio and USB Charging.
I really liked the look of this phone, until i saw how fat it was. Thats going to jangle around in your pocket like nothing else.
After moving to an e71, im not sure I could go that big. Perhaps the android camp will have a better version of this later in the year
XM5900 is for you, wait for S60 V5 Feature Pack 1
XM5900 has Similar styling as that of E71 & E52 (when it comes to thickness) and functionality of XM5800.
I had the phone in my hands some weeks ago… it was not stable and it feels poorly. Just a weak phone.
Did you? I doubt it :) I tried it and it’s very cool, believe me :)
No touch keyword. Miniview is just a dump “large” icon. I was told you only get resize message. Overall, there is nothing to call home about. BTW, I just checked out the Ovi Store. There are some apps. I found out Nokia contracted a company in Eastern Europe to write the app. Even Facebook app is done by Nokia.
i had this but the older model

I considered one based on the D7 demo; and, while they sell the unlocked version for No America, I think it’s way too expensive with an unproven OviStore & unknown apps. (I made that mistake with the unlocked HTC Tilt, which was so dumbed down by ATT in USA that I can’t even video conf with anyone.) If Nokia want to break N.A., they need this, unlocked, at $399 or less. I, for one, am reconsidering new iTouch with Skype!
The press release demo video is a lie, the transitions on the screen will do nothing like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pjNmbfSyGok
In fact the transitions will be far far worse, its pretty sad they have to lie about how the UI works
Sweet, they should ship to Jamaica…we eat this sorta thing up big time! But Blackberry is the number one hot phone rocking Jamaica right now!
N97 looks good but I can get 2 brand new iPhones in that price, So I’d go for iPhone for me and my wife.. Maybe next time Nokia :)
Btw, this phone comes has a scented version too. You may choose from curry scent, molded scent, and me-indian-no-bath scent. Personally, I like the no-bath scent the most because it reminds me of the close (no pun intended) comradery I had with my co-workers at my previous company.
Just how red is your neck, dude? Talk about the phone! Sheesh!
wow wonder how idiots like you even manage to get on the internet
Killer device, can’t wait. The factory packing vid is a great reverse take on traditional “onboxing video”. Would have been nice to have an ending with the cases being cracked in-store and loaded on shelves.
Thumbs down! Nothing new here that the E90 did’t have exept for the touch screen. Actually less! No keybord, no second display. Nokia workmanship is in the toilet, I had an E90, great unit for 14 months, then RX fine, TX…gone!! repair by Nokia…”can’t be repaired!” $700 + and 14 months…nah, I will buy Korean! In adition even the chrome plating wears off if 6 monts of normal use and corrosion, big problem…market share droping, wonder why? Might i suggest quality, peformance and innovation may be involved, I think they hibernate in Finland for 6 monts of the year perhaps why they are so slow to come to market and way, way behind these days..
This phone is WAY overpriced. I can buy two or three netbooks for what this thing. Pricing like this reminds me of the Greed that is Apple. Boycott this phone!
looks good but apparently not fantastic.
So does anyone know what phone company is providing service for this device?
This is gonna be a great phone, i mean after all it is made by the leading mobile manufacturer in the world. The reason the N97 is so expensive is because in America no companies will subsidize it, since americans like to buy cheaply made stuff and know nothing about quality products.
“N97 looks good but I can get 2 brand new iPhones in that price, So I’d go for iPhone for me and my wife.”
You do realize that the price of iPhone is about the same as N97, right? The difference is that with the iPhone the costs are included in the plan, so you’re not paying upfront.
I can’t wait till this comes out looks amazing and no need for mem card so should not slow the phone down. Anybody know when coming out on the 3 network as I am due an upgrade now. Was going to wait for the Sony Ericsson Idou but this has more features. Who cares about the price if you getting it on contract
Good day to you Nokia Family, Pls let me know when next Nokia N97 is coming to Nigeria in africa.

To make a call, you need a phone service. So you’re going to get the nokia without a plan? What are you going to do with it if you don’t use it as a phone? If you say skype or voip, the iphone or itouch can do that as well.
I love smartphones with a real keyboard. Can’t stand “touchables”. :-)
