You got your cube in my WinMo

Is it just me, or is that cube that comes up at about the minute mark totally ridiculous? Supposedly this UI feature will be in the Omnia II and possibly other Samsung WinMo handsets, but I’m really not feeling the magic. The gallery was pretty nice, though. I liked the visual indicator for zoom.

  • HA! I love how it doesn’t respond to some of the touches.

Hooray for WinMo stealing a long time Linux feature.

  • Having both a WInMo (TyTNII) and Android (Magic aka G2) phone, I just have to say, the resistive screen is old news. And the cube’s been ported for systems for several iterations of cooked ROMs on several WinMo devices.

  • You know, I hate to admit it, but I still have a Windows Mobile device kicking around even though I can’t stand the damned thing, and only use it when I travel. Unfortunately no matter how much I hate WM, there are some apps for WM that just aren’t available for any other platform (except maybe old Palm, which isn’t any better than WM).

At any rate, no matter how many slick (or not) shells they throw on top of WM, it is still the same clunky WM just below the surface. I really wish developers would just get over WM and move on to Android, so we could quit seeing these painful attempts to make WM usable.

  • Useless! I use Linux, have the Compiz Fusion loaded, but come on, do you think the cube serves anything.

I agree with Damean about the resistive screen, and that’s the issue I have with Nokia’s 5800 and N97, bad idea not to implement capacitive. I had the iPhone for a little over a year, and even though I didn’t care much for touchscreen solo, I couldn’t deal with resistive again. I can’t wait until a good Android phone comes out with AT&T compatible 3G frequency(s), but for now, I’m loving my new Nokia E75.

  • Wow, I was a long long time Windows Mobile users (from mpx200 to Palm treo pro and about 12 in between)

I have been using the iPhone 3g for a few months, and I am sure I will be flamed as a fanboy but seriously watching that video reminds me why I don’t really want to go back to Windows Mobile.

    1. It is not responsive
    2. It is really really slow to load anything in that video (with only 4 programs running in the task manager)
    3. That cube is completely useless and everyone seems to think that kind of thing is where Windows Mobile needs to go.

Windows Mobile 7 better be a huge improvement since Windows 6.x is getting really really stale.

NO MORE RESISTIVE TOUCH! CAPACITIVE OR NOTHING!
