Big news today, Sirius XM fans. The Sirius XM iPhone app has been released, and is available to download right now. The app itself is free, but you’ll need to be a Sirius XM subscriber to use it. Obviously.

Let’s get the bad news out of the way: there’s no Howard Stern on the app. There’s also no MLB and NFL. So if you were looking forward to using your fancy new iPhone 3G S to listen to Howard Stern, well, tough luck.

The good news: there’s plenty of other fine content to listen to. There’s Opie & Anthony and Ron & Fez from channel 202; Oprah; CNN and Fox News; and all that music, music that you can later buy from iTunes if you so desire.

As you may well know, I’m not an iPhone owner, nor do I have an iPod touch, so I can’t try it out myself.

Now, the Howard Stern fans will pan the app—“this sucks,” etc.—but if you can move past that you might just find what looks to be a neat little app.

Here’s a video of the app in action. Let me know what you think. And I do mean “me,” since I’m the only Sirius XM fan ’round here.

(Ron and Fez, 11 to 3.)

  • yeah…I’ll stick with pandora…thanks

  • Im using it as we speak, well until I get a text and have to exit the app to answer the text, then go back into it, if there is an app that needs background access, this is it

    • When you need to do that – can you at least re-start the app where you left off, or do you have to completely shut the app down and restart it?

  • im still thinking of paying for the premium after the 7 days ends, im a big O&A fan

  • It’s awesome, I couldn’t be happier catching O&A and R&F at work now since I am not allowed to stream music on my work computer.

I am not going to lie that it makes me chuckle that there is no Howard available. I mean he invented the iPhone…

    • Wow Kyle, sounds like you drank the Virus Kool Aid.

Bottom line…he’s been more successful (and still is) than the VIRUS will ever be. I’d be pissed too knowing that fact, don’t worry, it’s cool, we all understand.

      waaahhhhhh…Sirius doesn’t advertise us….waaahhhh

  • Howard Stern and his fat fuck sidekick Artie are douchebags anyway! I am happy they are not on this app!

  • no MLB or NFL…you would think that Sirius would “get serious” and try to do what it can, to help the stability of the company, by putting on some of the channels that would cause people to want to pay for the service (even Howard Stern)..my gosh, it is trading at about .37 cents…I know I am not the only shareholder that realizes we need to do something to get this stock “back-on-track”…management obviouly wants to pussy foot around and doesn’t have a clue…this was the perfect opportunity to do something that would be a big “value added” addition for Sirius…guess we need to get used to the OTC scenario…we will be there soon enough….

    • Seriously…. I’ve been waiting for this app for years and this is what they decide to do? With the stock in the toilet (I am a stockholder too), they decide to nickel-and-dime the people who are actually still subscribed? And they have the nerve to cripple it?? The last straw with them was a while ago and this is the kicker. This could have kept me as a subscriber but if they’re going to keep penalizing me for paying for their service, they can keep it. I love Howard and I love the music, but they can’t seriously expect to keep their customers when they treat people like this.

They were right about one thing… during their anti-trust hearings they argued that they compete with iPods etc for in-car entertainment. Well they do, and they’re about to lose.

  • I have Sirius in the car… is the $2.99/month really worth it?

  • The lack of Stern will piss off a lot of people.

  • Sirius XM for iPhone, now available with none of the content you want.

Guess I’ll have to keep downloading Stern from the Usenet binary groups.

  • O&A made the cut – sweet!

Oh wait, they want $12.95 for non-subscribers???

    I’ll pass, thanks.

I was a long-time XM user who bought units for relatives and GF’s. XM’s blundering “customer no-service” wore me out with their mistakes and messing-up my family account, so I bailed, as did many of my relatives, years ago.

I thought this would lure me back, no cigar.

  • It is still worth the extra fee to have the this programming available via iPhone but not having Howard Stern’s channels is very disappointing. Just like when Sirius first launched web based access and didn’t have those channels.
