The sun cracked over the horizon, and off we went. Like any good Apple fan boys bloggers, we camped out (in multiple places around the country, even) to pick up our iPhone 3G S. We’ll have our final, non-rushed review up sometime in the next few days – in the mean while, it’s time for you to voice up.
We’ve got our opinions, forged from the steels of writing about and playing with too many cell phones cell phones. We want to hear what you think, dear iPhone owner. Whether that new iPhone 3G S is your first stab at this whole Apple-made cell phone nonsense or you’ve been rockin’ the fruitphone since the EDGE-only days of yester-yesteryear, we want your insight.
Love it? Hate it? Share your wisdom in the comments below.

Love it. It’s my first time owning an iPhone. I was waiting until it felt complete. Was tempted after all the App Store hype, but figured there’d be a bigger, better release the next year.
Adore it! Not an Apple fan boy, nor a hater, but I simply love my iPhone. Used the 3G and now, just bought the 3G S. Let me tell you, this S rocks. What I missed and felt I missed are all met in the new phone. I don’t have the embarrassing “oh-not-on-my-phone-moments” now…hope they don’t come up in me until the next iPhone is launched.
Upgraded my 3g and its awesome!!! Its Blazing Fast!!! The phone rocks… I cant think of anything this phone is missing besides maybe a flash!!!! Apple has create a great phone!!! Voice dial works flawless.
I can’t get over how much more responsive it is over my 1st Gen iPhone. Its like going from a G4 to a Core Duo… crazy.
I’m in the same boat is Bobachet, this is my first iphone as well. It has been well worth the wait!
I tried to buy one online from Fido.ca today, but of courser they were experiencing, “technical difficulties”. LOL. Maybe next week.
Yay, thanks for using my photo! For other readers: that’s a crop of a photo taken on the new iPhone 3G S, the focus was actually on the Genius Bar sign up top, so the bottom was a little fuzzier as a result.
~Thoughts~
Background: this is my 3rd iPhone. I’ve had both the first-gen and, until this morning, the 3G.
Speed: definitely snappier, waaay better switching between apps and loading app data, it’s absurd how fast/well search works, and the graphics are much smoother.
OS refinements: love the ability to widescreen all apps, it’s super convenient to be able to type on a bigger touchpad. At the same time, it does cut off a considerable portion of the screen, so if you’re typing multi-line messages, then it’s probably better to use the smaller keypad in non-landscape mode.
Voice memos: I can definitely see myself using this to record lectures/seminars/talks, the quality is surprisingly decent.
Compass: this is a neat toy, and on maps it’s extremely useful for walking around.
Voice control: requires a quiet environment to work properly, and you really have to enunciate, which can make you sound silly if there are other people around, but hey, it’s still nifty. Honestly, I’m not sure why anyone would bother when it wouldn’t take much longer to just do any of the available commands manually, but whatever.
Favorite new feature: STEREO BLUETOOTH. I’ve been using this with a Samsung’s SBH-500, and it works like a dream. Range is variable outside, but overall it’s crisp and solid quality for a Bluetooth set. I would definitely NOT recommend Motorola’s S9 headset, it kept shorting out on me and stopping/starting at random.
Cheerio,
~Jae
I love it! This is my first iPhone and it’s wicked fast! Plus, how awesome is stereo bluetooth? Very.
Reports i’ve seen say its a little quicker and some of the refinements/additions are nice (if overdue in some cases).
This has to be my favoritest phone that I don’t own.
Oh you glad ones have one of those babies…
It sucks
m3tric – Sorry to hear that. I am sure you are grateful for the return policy. ; )
From all of you that had the regular 3G until yesterday morning, it’s really interesting hearing that you guys are satisfied and that there is a significant and noticable difference comparing with the S.
The speed is pretty much the only thing that can justify an upgrade (hardly the compass) for me. Will sure be interesting to try it out.
What about video? That’s the feature that I think I’m most interested in compared with the 3G. I just can’t justify the early upgrade price. Looks like i’m waiting another year. Boo
it, great, but it’d be even better, if instead of reading ‘NO SERVICE’ for the last 12hrs it read EDGE or any other network option for that matter…
edge/3g network is down in nyc right now, anyone else having trouble??
*a zoom option on the camera would be great
*being able to search the body of a contact, instead of just the title
*being able to turn the phone off, but have the alarm turn it on as needed
*better battery life
give me a few more days and ask if i’m using my crackberry again…
Love it!!! Nice job Apple
@Tim
The new iPhone does have zoom!
To zoom in – take two steps forward.
To zoom out – take two steps back.
Screen is frozen-frosty=winter/cold (thermometer extension app)
Screen shows endless stream of soundbites, unverifiable and vague claims and money disappears form your account regardless of whether you buy it or not (PoliticalPod app)
