In the Netherlands touching your phone or handsfree gear is prohibited while driving.
And, yes, even talking is dangerous. I think it is because of the lo-fi quality of telephone sound. Someone next to me is easier to to hear.

Don’t you have a law that says you should not endanger others by not looking at the road ? Trying to calm down the kids on the backseat is dangerous too if it takes a minute or so. Or reading your notes while driving to your meeting.

It does seem unfair, yes, but if its still legal then the ‘unskilled’ idiots can still text and drive. Really, how desperate are people to send a message while driving 35, 45, 60mph? Is the marginal benefit really that high? Also, some people are really unimpared when they have 0.05% alcohol in their blood, but others are quite. Does it make that unfair?

And remember folks, driving is a privelege not a right, so its up to everyone to be safe and responsible.

There should be zero tolerance on mobile phone use, whether for talking or texting – while driving. Handsfree is not the solution. The difference between talking on a phone (handsfree or not) or talking to someone else in the vehicle is that when shit happens in traffic the passengers in the vehicle shut up so the driver can concentrate on driving.

From the 2nd floor window of my gym a few weeks ago I watched a young woman make a very skillful left turn at a major intersection – while eating a bowl of cereal. Really.

I agree. Its pretty selfish and reckless to text and drive, it literally demands your full attention. Thats why the Australian Federal Government over here has completely banned the use of mobile phones in cars, not just holding one to your ear. You legally aren’t allowed to have one in your hand while driving.

Yeah, i totally agree especially nowadays that more people are hooked up with cellphones. Many people do this actually, texting while driving and what’s more scary is they could not only danger themselves but the people with them, the passengers. by the way, hope you could visit this link, http://www.freepressreleasecenter.com/ ,you might want to try posting your concerns here, just bumped into it and thought of sharing it. Seriously, people need a study to tell them it is a bad idea to READ while driving?! Come on, most people have a hard time not running into things texting while WALKING! I can’t believe there would be anyone colossally idiotic enough to think they could get away with it while DRIVING.

What these tests fail to realize is that alcohol consumption affects everybody. I maintain that some people (myself included) are completely unimpaired while txting. Either you can or you can’t. Some people just have the dexterity to multitask and some don’t.

Stuff like this is so serious but people won’t listen. Get a hands-free headset or integrate your cellphone through your radio/speakers so you can make calls but still have both hands on the wheel.
