I currently have the original Dash and am thinking bout upgrading. Trying to decide on what’s better for me. The Dash 3G or a Blackberry. For one, is it true you can not use the new Dash as a modem for a laptop anymore? This is one of the features I loved about the original.

Other than this, my main concerns are, being a Record Label exec and artist, I have to listen to other artists music or see their videos. Often artists refer me to their myspace pages or facebook for example and currently I am not able to access their music players or whatever widgets they have on their pages to listen to their music. Do any of the above mentioned phones make this available or is there a phone that you can reccomend that will allow me to access certain widgets so I can check out artists music and show videos? I was told I would need a phone that will allow me to download some kind of flash player software for mobile phones. What can you suggest?

My old Dash was accidently submerged in water and through insurance I was supplied with the new Dash 3G. So far I really like the phone. It’s a big improvement. I still feel as if it doesn’t compare to most high end smartphones on the market. I do dig the homescreen and wonder why Microsoft doesn’t do something like this for the entire OS. Windows Mobile is so ugly compared to most systems. What I love most about this new version is tethering my laptop to the 3G network. Unfortunately I already signed a contract for the Web Stick through T-Mobile and will have to pay an early termination fee if I rely on tethering for access.

Why does the reviewer say that it’s a custom home theme. This is the Theme for WM Standard 6.1 since 6.1 has been out.

Well, I played with the phone in a T-Mobile store over the weekend, and while the features of the phone seem great, I now understand the gripes Devin had with the keyboard – the indentation of each row is entirely unintuitive and makes it quite hard to type with. It’s very frustrating, because everything else about the phone seems pretty great. Hmph.

I’d recommend to anyone considering this phone to at least try typing on it for a few minutes before buying one.

3G speeds are fine around Boston on the phone and are giving me 700+ kbps while tethered to my laptop, oh — while on a moving train. Tethering is possible — I’m writing this tethered to my week-old Dash 3G in fact. I was on an unlimited data plan which T-Mobile allowed me to keep at the same price when I bought the new phone.

dude this phone has Gps, wifi, 3G “skyfire” ABLE internet browser that supports FLASH, trac ball, Free Tethering internet sharing to a pc or laptop(must be under Tmobile network), power email, full keyboard(touch screens are annoying for a guy)why is this a bad phone? its a iphone killer to me. iphone dont have flash on there stupid web browser also..

yes!! tmobile lets you Tethering for free with a unlimited data plan. the dash is super great because of this. if you use pdanet for the dash you wont get pics loading on certain sites like craigslist, pbnation, honda-tech, and many more. but with straight internet sharing in the menu bar you get the full internet on your pc legally! with this dash 3g under tmove! hey guys try downloading “skyfire” web browser for the dash and you get a full browser that supports FLASH!

3G speed was great. I’d say it is at least as fast as my G1, which certainly is as fast as anything else. I couldn’t get the AGPS to work off the bat for some reason. Didn’t try Skype. Tethering isn’t allowed by T-Mobile, of course, but something like PDAnet should work fine. I haven’t held a dash in a while, but if I remember correctly the Dash 3G is a little smaller, thinner, and feels really good in the hand. I thought it was a great light-medium weight.

Thanks for your review, Devin. I’m strongly considering upgrading from the Dash. A few questions that hopefully you can answer: How would you rate the 3G – any speed tests? Were you still able to get a location from the cell towers when GPS didn’t work? Did you try tethering to a computer? Did you try to use Skype? How does it compare in size/weight with the Dash?
