That’s a mighty generic-looking Android phone you got there, Philips

philipsIt may be that we’re entering an era of lozenge-shaped phones with little to distinguish them from one another, but that doesn’t mean phone makers shouldn’t even try. Honestly, if your phone looks and acts like every other phone and its specs are for the most part the same, why did you put it out?

Philips’ V808 is their first Android-based smartphone, so I guess you can’t blame them for sticking to the basics. 3.2-megapixel camera, 320×480 touchscreen, the usual business. There aren’t any photos of the phone when it’s on, but the article seems to say there’s some widget functionality, though they could just be talking about the normal Android stuff.

I’m no fan-boy ( I’m lying ), but weve officially entered the age where every smart phone that comes out will imitate the iPhone. In all honesty, the segment seems to have reached its form to function peak. Much the same way Plasma TV’s all look the same… cause what more could you really do to improve a perfect design?

    • An imitation to the iPhone? Bah! I think they can improve on the design by making them small enough to just fit on your ear or to pin on your shirt or belt. Of course, we live in a superficial world that cares much more on what a device looks like over what it can do.

  • hey Dante, perhaps you should check out something “BlackBerry,” which has a querty keybord.

The iPhone is attracting lots of immitators, but so is BlackBerry.

I see smart phones forking into to two branches:
    1) iPhone-like with touchscreens and those other iPhone bells and whistles
    2) Blackberry-like with a querty keyboard.

  • ….
    immatating? who?
what is so new about the iphone? winmo touchscreens phones are out there for ages (and they still suck).
the main interface is basically a wall of shortcuts…
    no customizations or nothing here…
(dont have an iphone, so correct me if i am wrong)

and i think its insane to claim that blackbarry inveted the keyboard… cause phones have had those for a long time aswell… (not on front but, if thats the difference your refering to… than thats pathetic..)

you don’t get many revolutions in technologie, you just get evolution.. so yes everyone steals from everybody… and thats a good thing…

though i do give you a point that most new phones are compared to the iphone, dont know why but a lot of people have it and like it…

  • I always like to bring up people’s self-esteem so here’s a link for a story about how Philips is coming out with some BRIGHT technology…lol…no need to excuse the pun.

  • It looks very much like the iPhone aside from a different logo and a few details !!;-)

Should the OS at least be Android 1.5 as seen on HTC Hero, then the inside could delightfully contrast it from most of the other Android devices so far on the market. Not to mention 2.0.

  • How the heck are they going to drop the back button? That’s the best feature on the phone.

  • That’s a great. My favorite is Blackberry but this is also looking cool and I am planning to buy this one too.
