Spotify, a free and increasingly popular music streaming service available on the other side of the pond (and currently by invite only in the US), has yet to launch an official Android Market app.
But not to worry. A group of Spotify fans have developed Droidify, an unofficial Spotify client for Android. The free app:
lets you search, browse, manage playlists and listen to the millions of songs available from Spotify on your phone. You can use it with both 3G and Wi-Fi.
Primarily intended to tide over Android-totin Spotify users until an official app is released, Droidify doesn’t currently offer any offline functionality while the official app apparently will. But hey, its free and its available now.
Update: Aaaaand it’s gone. Turns out Droidify wasn’t allowed under the agreement terms that Spotify had set up with music labels. Spotify contacted Droidify’s dev and asked nicely, and the dev took it down. Oh well.

Drodify is no longer on the Android Market. The developer was asked by Spotify to take it down. I guess it was good while it lasted. :D

You could take a look at Spot, which is GPL’d, and based on the GPL’d desktop library, Despotify.
It is for the IPhone OS, not Android.
This tweet is from Spotify: and it for the iphne OS
music labels are EVIL, there is even a libary out

open ness is allways good, blocking other developers are STUPID, you can see that on the iphone, you cant use google voice, why? apple blocked it, for NO REASON
This highlights an interesting point though. Android apps do not need to be in the marketplace, you can easily download and install from a website or torrent (without any need to hack your phone).
If Spotify persist with their plan of allowing only premium users to use their app, this will be a constant battle for them.
Actually, this may be less relevant if Droidify required a premium account to work. Can’t see any mention of this.
Yeah it did, you needed a premium account for Droidify to access the API
I’m intrigued by Android, I’m not preparing to abandon the iPhone yet but they’re well positioned and just need some decent handsets on the market!
who doesn’t love android?
