When I finally got my hands on an iPod touch, I was excited. After watching countless “There’s an app for that” ads, I was very much interested in checking out the App store. The main drive for me was games – until I actually saw all the games that were out there. To put it nicely, I was not impressed. While the App Store has plenty of gems, it’s also filled with a ton of crap. I know because I bought a lot of it.
That’s why I was really excited to see the list of games that Gear Patrol just put out. From the ones I’ve tried, the list is spot on. The only bad news is I’m probably going to end up spending some more money on games. (At least the Civilization Revolution game.)
Here’s the short version of their list:
Doom Resurrection
Civilization Revolution
Scrabble
Worms
The Oregon Trail
Assassin’s Creed
World War
Tiger Woods
Texas Hold’em
Minigore
On that note – what are your iPhone games? Know of any diamonds in the rough hiding amongst the bologna?

I’m a big fan of the fantastic and free Wild West Pinball.
Texas Hold’em certainly stood the test of time. The games get better by the day.
Puzzle Quest, Aurora Feint, Geodefense, Crystal Defenders, 7 Cities, Arcade Bowl, Heavy Mach, Lux Touch, Paper Toss, Pocket Tanks, Unblock Me.
That’s my list. Enjoy. ^_^
Dude, that list of games is terrible. My faves: Eliss, Drop 7, Edge, Luxor, Rolando 1 & 2, Spider, Space Invaders Infinity Gene, Peggle, Wolfenstein RPG, Crayon Physics, Real Racing, Toki Tori, Critter Crunch, geoDefense, Star Defense, Sway and Zen Bound.
Ill just say one…….Lux Touch! Ive literally played that game 1 MILLION TIMES already! Im learning the A.I.’s moves on every turn.
Pocket Tanks. \m/
Peggle, natch. Civilization is surprisingly good. Wild West Pinball is amazing.
hahahahhaha
Wild West Pinball isn’t free (.99)…maybe you can list your favorite free ones (or with free versions to test) too…
I like Snake , Pocket Tanks
Homerun 3d Baseball Slugger…. easily the most addictive game on any platform I’ve ever played
I have just one: paper toss!
Baseball Superstars 2009 – I hate baseball yet I love this game, tons of RPG elements to keep it interesting. Most everything else I like is already on the list except for Flight Control. Flight Control is pure concentrated awesomeness.
I also enjoyed Flight Control but it’s one of those games that gets real hard, real quick. I can make it up to 50-60 planes each time, but much more than that is a l-o-t harder.
Not mentioned elsewhere is Ragdoll Blaster. Such a simple idea, but such depth to the program – 104 individually devised levels. I’ve been glued to it all weekend. I love these physics based games.
I agree with Ragdoll Blast! Any more physics types games like that?
Drop7 still has me hooked.
Doodle Jump, when the simple becomes fabulous :) Worth every cent.
Airport Mania is certainly THE most addictive game I’ve played on my iPod Touch. Been Twice Through with 3 star performance on every level – not usually that obsessional.
My favorites are: Deep Pinball, Flight Control, geoDefense, Scrabble, StoneLoops, Treasures of Montezuma, WordJong, Mini Golf Wacky Worlds, Bomb Commander, Doodle Jump.
Mine have to be Rolando 1 and 2 and Pocket Tanks. Hero of Sparta is great as well.
I dug Hero of Sparta and Everest: Hidden Expedition
TAP TAP Revenge!!!!!!
BEST GAME on iPhone! Hands down!
Scrabble and Hearts, baby!
Right now I can’t get enough of Droplitz!
Hi,I’m from the uk. I really want the game ‘pandemonium’, by EA but it’s only available on the US app store. Can anyone tell me why it’s not availble in the uk? I’m going to the states next week, could I buy it whilst I’m there? Thanks in advance for any info.
Right you are in saying that there are allot of utterly rubbish games taking up space in the app store but ultimately if you know where to look there are many hidden gems. Firstly although this one is almost a year old, there are few games that beat it in terms of its addictive nature. Its called Blocked and available for a dollar. Its a logic game but it brought me much satisfaction(not that type). Other superb games are Kenny Rogers Blackjack, if you are fond of a flutter (as yours truly is far too much for his own good) this will keep you entertained the inexpensive way. Excellent set up and has music to the gambler from kenny himself in the background.
Then you have those very straightforward games like Paper Toss and Sheep Launcher which although cool will ware your patience thin in no time. Real Soccer 2009 is a classic football game and is a great job considering the limitations the iphone offers in terms of controls. On the theme of soccer, Championship Manager is a cracking game but for our American audience probably will hold little interest. CubicMan and Bejeweled are also well worth the accumulated price tag of zero. Killing time has never, and i repeat never been easier with these two gems.
Harbour master and Flight control are very similar to each other (except the fact that one is with boats and the other is with places) but are equally good fun. A great free one is Waterslide Extreme, randomly this was made by Barclays Bank. Check them out.
