WOW I have to say elated, excited, geeked up, uber happy, I can go on and on are just some of the feelings that are running through my head. As a loyal Sprint customer for over 10 years, this day will be marked as a serious highlight. This plus Simply Everything Plans…. you can’t loose!

GOOD JOB DAN!! Looks like your going to actually beat Verizon to the punch… pat yourself on the back for a job well done. Its this sort of business acumen that will bring Sprint back to where it belongs, America’s best carrier.

Contradictory to the popular opinion over here, I found the original chinned design hideous and this one looks very nice, classy and drool worthy.

At least the gaudy gold trim is gone.

I like the original better, but I don’t think this is ugly, per se – certainly not a dealbreaker for me.

This will be my phone come Oct 11 unless something else comes out to make me wait (Sholes…)

I agree, but a simple focus group of their target audience (males 20-40) displaying the 2 phones would have solved this. Fail Sprint, Fail.

Well, there’s still the out-of-the-box Sense UI, the fact that the processor runs at full speed at all times, and they reconfigured the buttons.

Okay, I’m reaching here. I’m majorly bummed by this, but I’m guessing they slapped the hero in the Magic’s case to make the handset cheaper (I’m guessing the REAL hero’s teflon coating is costly), and probably Sprint was scared by the chin.

+2. Before it was a beautiful device with an underwhelming processor from 2008. Now it’s just an ugly, cheap looking device with an underwhelming processor from 2008.

Sprint, you really let me down with this one. Now I’ll wait til you notice this and hopefully revert the design when sales are atrocious. Or skip it altogether and wait for the Hero 2 with a Cortex A8 processor.

OK, so they took away the only thing about the Hero that distinguishes it from the Magic, and they’re still calling it the Hero, even though it now looks more like the Magic?

Agreed. Why couldn’t they just leave the design well enough alone? It looked perfect before!

If they wanted to change something so badly, they should have swapped out the CPU for a faster one.

+1. I don’t think I’m ever going to be satisfied with any smartphone.

In it’s original chineriffic yet beautiful form, this would have been my silver bullet. Now, it looks like every other Sprintified smartphone circa 2006.

The Sprint press release says $180 after a $50 instant rebate and a $100 mail in rebate. Your article says its a $50 mail in rebate.
