The 3.1 application update has, in my experience slowed down backup even more than before, and my iphone is much less stable. I'm re-installing it a 3rd time from a clean wipe to see if that improves things. I stopped the backup after six hours yesterday.. In my opinion, don't go to 3.1 Iphone software. Its a real problem.

Might be a security update, hence no charge to the existing ipod users. But what kind of security update it is when it can possibly be jailbroken in less than a week?
