Earlier today, we passed on word of a rumor that the Sprint Touch Pro 2 would be seeing a price cut from the oh-so-absurd price of $349 (after a $100 mail-in rebate, mind you) down to the much more reasonable $149. It sounded great! With Verizon’s Touch Pro 2 already at that price, it certainly didn’t sound too good to be true – but it was, for the most part.
Turns out, the original source got the details wrong. While Sprint will begin offering the Touch Pro 2 for $199, that’s not the price you’ll see – that is, unless you work at a big ol’ corporation with 100+ lines of service.
The bad news came by way of a Sprint Rep, who sent the following comment to Brighthand:
Starting tomorrow, the price drop for HTC TouchPro2 from Sprint is only available to corporate liable customers with 100+ lines. All other channels will sell at original price $349.99 with a two-year service agreement and after $100 mail-in rebate.
Oh well – looks like Sprint will continue to sell their Touch Pro 2 at an absurd price along with everyone else.

Yes, the initial cost is high, but if you take a few minutes to figure out the total cost of ownership (minimum voice-plan cost, number of minutes included in plan, data minutes, etc.), you’re spending less via Sprint…
But do you really think the consumer is going to look into it enough to realize that. Most people see the sticker price and go for the cheapest… or at least the coolest, then the cheapest.
I agree with you; most consumers are probably penny wise & pound foolish, and prefer style over substance. My comment was directed at the rest of us… :o)
I bought two of them, so the wife could have one. Totally worth it. Would I have liked to have gotten it for less? Sure, but I don’t feel like I got robbed.
Best device I’ve ever owned.
You know what? I’m actually somewhat relieved that I don’t have to make the hard choice between this and the Hero now. This sure does seem like a great device (especially with Windows Mobile 6.5 coming along soon) but I really can’t afford it. Android for me! (At least for now.)
I love my HTC Touch Pro 2 and upfront price that I paid for the device was totally worth it. On top of that I only pay $69 a month for unlimited data and 450 minutes, no other major carrier even comes close to that on an individual plan.
This phone is simply amazing, the keyboard is probably the best of any phone on the market. HTC’s Touch Flo3D 2.1 is also a great addition to Windows Mobile 6.1, makes me forget that I have yet to get my upgrade to 6.5. 10/6!
Also, one major overlooked item that this phone has to offer is it’s screen’s resolution, 480 x 800 pixels on 3.6 inch screen means pure awesomeness.
Buy this phone, you’ll love it.
i just purchased 2 sprint touch pro 2’s although i have had the 6700, the mogul, the touch pro at least with those phone i received an headset, and a case with those phones and i paid a whole lot less for those phones. dont get me wrong i love the pro 2 but i do feel a little cheated since they got all of their money and they short changed us on the acessories.
Not true!! I just ordered one today via the website for $199 (no mail in rebate required!)!!!
I selected Business User, and enetered the business EIN, and BAM! $199!!!
How did you get it for $199? I’ve tried and all I get is the run around saying I have to pay $449 and then received a rebate of $100 to make it $349. Still too expensive. Can you explain a little more in detail how you did it?
Thanks

You will need a business EIN (Employer Identification Number) to qualify
You can get an EIN from the IRS here, if you don’t have one, or have a friend who has one:

I even qualified for a $100 rebate, so my total phone cost was $99, and I only have a 1 year contract!!
Allow me to further tell of proof that the HTC Touch Pro2 for Sprint WILL BE sold for $199.99. I called Sprint myself, though it took several different calls and more than one phone number. It finally did come through, whereas I can purchase the Touch Pro 2 for the lower price. I was skeptical at first too, but Sprint will honor me with the lower price! Yay!
when will there be a price drop? 350 to be stuck w 6.1 again is absurd
I think Sprint should just lower the price down for everyone. How many big company would give you a phone for work? Not that many. If Sprint lower its price think of how many people would upgrade their phone, that’s another 2yr agreement they have to sign again with Sprint. Also HTC Hero is about to come out soon, so I think price drop will be coming soon.
i just the Samsung Momeent- uh such a let down; there’s just no comparison. i had a mogul for almost two years. the transition from mt windows-based phone to this has been horrible. i mainly used my mogul to watch videos- they look terrible on the Moment. i’m going to take it back and save up for the tp2.
