The BlackBerry Storm 2 is no secret. We’ve known that a second generation touchscreen BlackBerry has been in the works for months. Actually it was probably RIM that “leaked” all the info in an effort to save face from the flop that is the original Storm. A NYT article quotes Verizon’s CEO saying that he’s been carrying the phone for weeks and been giving impromptu demos at Verizon Wireless retail outlets. Spoiler: employees like it.
NYT,
“I let them play with the second-generation Storm device,” he said. “They came back and said ‘Oh, my gosh.’ They were very excited. This is what they hoped the original Storm should be.”
As a BlackBerry Storm owner myself, I can tell you that the most frustrating part of using the Storm is that it’s evident the platform has so much more to give. I stare at my Storm everyday wishing and hoping that it would live up to that potential. But it doesn’t. It sucks even more every time I use it.
There still isn’t a firm release date for the Storm’s second coming. The NYT’s article states something about a launch this week and there have been retail signage leaked online the last few days, but our Verizon retail tipsters still haven’t heard anything about it being available for purchase this week. The honest truth is that no one knows for sure.

Spoiler: the man whose reputation (and fortune) rests on the success of this device says that people who he pays or who are similarly reliant on the success of this device are all very excited.
Actually if you read the NYT article it specicially explains that VZW’s CEO was on the new york university campus and a few student’s were quoted as saying they are excited and it was what they hoped it would be after he let them use the device. Your comment is irrelvant.
I’m with you Matt. I have both a Tour and a Storm. I RELY on my Tour every day to get stuff done. The Storm…nothing more than a toy and not even a good one at that. But unlike may out there who pooh pooh the Storm, I honestly don’t think the hardware is to fault. The Blackberry OS in it’s 4.7 iteration on the Storm just SUCKS SO BAD it’s not funny. And yes I’ve tried the 5.0 OS leaks, and they SUCK JUST AS BAD. No amount of “Storm2″ hardware sweetness is going to fix the fundamentally flawed core OS that is Blackberry today. It is perfectly suited to the applications upon which I rely on my Tour day in and day out, but as a consumer device they can roll as many new hardware devices as they want but they are never going to hold off Apple and Google without a complete revamp of the OS.
These are words of wisdom from an actual BB user. Thanks for your insights!
Isn’t that John Larroquette’s brother pictured with the phone ?! There’s no caption. (giggles)
‘Verizon employees praise CEO’s phone!’ Wow, thanks for that shocking news, Walter Winchell.
Nice work.. It looks good phone. But we can better know when it release in market..
