Their seems to be two distinct camps when it comes to the Motorola Droid. One group looked at it and said, “Wow! That is a gorgeous phone!”; the other looked at it and said, “Wow! That is a horrendous phone!”.
I, personally, am in Camp 1 – I think the Droid is pretty stunning. The same can not be said for Motorola’s other Android phone for Verizon. BGR just got fed a handful of pictures of the Motorola Calgary, an as-of-yet unannounced but long-rumored Android handset. There are three touch sensitive keys on the face, and it’s packing a 3 megapixel camera, 3.5mm headset jack (Hurray!), GPS, magnetometer, microSD slot, WiFi, and a whole lot of ugly. A logo on the back of the handset confirms that it’ll run Moto’s custom Android frontend, BLUR.
Perhaps the pictures don’t do it justice – is anyone really feelin’ the design of this one?

Ugh, gross….
So it Motorola’s idea to put Moto BLUR on only the ugliest cheap looking devices around?
Learn how to use up to date pictures. That is a very very old revision of the droid. New pictures are here and looks quite good imo:

Learn to read the article. He’s not talking about Droid.

Ba-zinga!
except for the cheap-looking materials I think this phone looks better than the Moto Droid, which I think is the ugliest Android phone to date.
Funny, I actually think this one looks better than the Droid.
Notice I said better, not good. I don’t think either is particularly striking.
I think it’s the materials that make it ugly. If it looked like the first renderings it would be pretty slick. If it was made out of shiny metal it may even look better than the droid. I like the absense of the “chin” that shows up on the droid.
As far as running blur…meh; good for the kiddies I guess.
What happened to that slick metal casing we saw months ago! That razor-style casing with the back lit keys, sleek design and over sexiness?
I was thinking of waiting for Calgary over Droid, but if this is the final design I’ll go for Droid! (Which I also think is pretty damn sexy)
Could be a mess of a pre-production unit.
Thought this version of it looked nice… http://cache.gizmodo.com/assets/images/4/2009/04/androidmoto.jpg
I like the design. for some reason the words slick and sleek come to mind. I dont find the droid ugly, nor this. (tho it does look like it wasnt originally meant to run blur, and they just took a button off.)
Damn that is ugly.
Lose the touch-sensitive interface and extend the screen. Extend the keyboard a bit more since you have plenty more room. Why be cramped when you can.. not? Duh? Get rid of that round thing, whatever it is. Please don’t tell me its a mouse nub? Ugh. Lose that square thing as well. Are those where the sensors are? Hmm. Lastly but not least, make it silver and out of brushed aluminum.
Do ALL of that and it would be a hundred times better. Although, I still wouldn’t buy one since even if you did all of that it would still be ugly.
Toss the entire thing, it’s a giant brick of fail.
I think the phone looks great. It’s a pre-production model, so you know the look and feel will be much more polished upon release. Also, the keyboard actually looks more useable than the Droid’s, in my opinion.
I imagine if the Droid is priced around $200 (w/ 2-yr contract), this will likely come in around $100-$150, which should prove compelling enough for heavy social networkers that don’t necessarily need the processing power of the Droid. I would think this phone would be a hit with high school/college-aged crowd.
Haha damn that think looks cheap.
I think it will give the sprint lg rumor a run for its money. Im not sure if thats a good thing or bad thing. No sarcasm here!
Anyhow why would motorola would release similar designed phones?
Droid sucks lmao talk about a terrible name for an ugly device. It’s just filler until Verizon can get the iPhone 4G on it’s network next year.
I prefer the look of this one over the Droid, it doesn’t have that ugly d-pad.
Blimey this looks so dated… I loved the Sinclair computers from the 80’s:

But this phone looks like the love child of the ZX81 and the Spectrum – not at all attractive to my eye!
I think it would look pretty good if they took away the Verizon logo and the Motorola circle logo.
