Today is the International Day of the DROID. Well, not really, but Verizon did follow through and officially announced its new flagship Motorola Android device – DROID.
Along with the official presser, Motorola was also kind enough to provide some glistening press shots of the DROID, “A no-compromise supergenius” as they like to call it, along with an official DROID by Motorola Fact Sheet (all after the jump).
Hopefully these images and info will tide your DROID appetite over until we get our hands on posted later today.

This thing is awsome….
i want one NOWWWWWW…
This phone breaks some new ground. Maybe all the hoopla about iPhone apps is going to slow down a bit and people will start building mobile websites for smartphones.
I think the specs are really good and the form isn’t terrible but the keyboard could use some work.
Will be a GSM version?
I was kind of hoping they could screen and emboss a few more logo’s on it.
If they screen an apple logo on it will you buy it?
Actually, I think this device is nicer than the iPhone, don’t confuse my comment for fanboy-ism.
That said, 5+ company logo’s still seems cluttered & unnecessary.
Time to break out the magic eraser.

@wbskeet37 <– Another bend-over-apple-fan that will buy whatever Jobs sells him.
I was kind of hoping they could emboss & screen a few more logo’s on it.
iDon’t have a slim form factor.
I think you missed the whole point of the commercial. “iDon’t” is what the iPhone says…
errr, uh, yeah I think that was the point of his joke.
Is it just me, or does this thing look massive?
Looks massive – PALM you have a chance, get the PRE on verizon…
I don’t get it. yes, android is an interesting operating system but the physical phone leaves a lot to be desired. it’s just not particularly attractive. and it looks huge.
Um,, Massive?
iphone dimensions:
Dimensions: 4.5 inches by 2.4 inches by 0.48 inch
Droid Dimensions
4.6 by 2.4 by .5
This includes a keyboard, and a bigger better screen.
PUHLEASE.
Enough of you and your pesky facts.
Why? If you can’t take it, don’t read it! Dum Dum! Go home and play with your iPhone.
Relax dude, if you don’t get the sarcasm then just ignore. If you do, then smile. Either way, don’t post. Same for your earlier comment about webskeet
hey i think that you need to read again, is says physical keyboard idiot, last time i checked the iPhone didn’t have that, nor does it have multitasking capabilities. iPhone is outdated now, still doesn’t have a flash and the last thing that iPhone users are crazy about is being able to actually do a MMS. so PUHLEASE. get a real phone.
Psion 3a form factor comes of age.
what up with the black/gold thing to the right of the keyboard? reminds me on my old intellivision paddle from the 80’s.
i know right? that thing is hideous. other than that, this is a pretty cool phone. :)
whoa whoa whoa why is my pic on here?? >.<
See, I have one of those boxy Jeeps. I love it. There are an equal number of people who absolutely hate square cars.
I have an iphone. I’m getting Droid. I hate sleek and aerodynamic. I will never use this phone in a wind tunnel.
Boxes Rock! (Intellivision comparisons rock too!)
I just got out of my tmobile contract 2 weeks ago. Ive been debating between an Iphone and this. Ill wait till I see some hands on reviews, but this looks* awesome!
*except for its actual physical looks
Lol ohh George Lucas: DROID is a trademark of Lucasfilm Ltd. and its related companies. Used under license.
is there really any point in buying anything but an iPhone? crack the code and bring it to verizon
fyi, Droid is CDMA and iPhone is GSM. GSM is always a better option over CDMA in terms of portability and travelling internationally.
I read somewhere that there were FCC documents being pushed through that mention the code name and the GSM band.
shutup
does anybody know if the backlight is gonna auto adjust to light sensitivity?
Butt Ugly. It baffles me why no other company than Apple can make an asthaetically pleasing device. There are just so many unnecessary ridges and bumps and curves and markings.
Yeah it’s not so pretty, but it’s feature packed. If it feels solid I’m sold. I use a lot of Google tools so the fact that this is jam-packed with the latest and greatest make me quite happy as well. Not to mention I can get it on the Verizon network.
I agree the iphone is prettier on the outside.
I totally agree, this is the reason why Apple is dominating the mobile device, and I HATE it. So come on you guys, design something from you brain, BE competitive, this way, there is no monopoly.
The phone actually looks pretty slick from the top view in my opinion. Other than that, yea its a little bumpy but I’m more worried about functionality. Plus everyone I know who has an iPhone puts it in one of those ugly protector cases anyway. Whats the point of a pretty phone if you have to cover it up to avoid impairing its perfection it anyway?
Any large screen device needs protection. This phone will need it too. A folio type case with a hard panel for the screen is a must for iPhone or any other large screen device. But at home or work most people take the case off. Yes a skin type case is not logical for the beautifully made devices but again, most skins for iPhone looks much better than this phone.
I disagree, iPhone has an horrible design. Seems melted and unbalanced (I hate that round back). Feels bad in my hand.
The design reminds me furnitures from the 60’s. The first iPhone was nice, the second design is childish. Generally speaking I don’t like Apple design, too feminine and uppity. Most of the time it’s empty, non existent, hollow, like a fart app…
Hasn’t anyone noticed the fact that it is Flash 10 ready? I presume that means it is included which is significant.
Not included yet, but Coming in first half of 2010.

See under “INTERNET AND GAMES”
sorry but it’s very ugly
So slap a dang case on it. I haven’t seen my freakin iPhone out of its case for a year. Next!
Beautiful !
New Droid by Motorola is amazing. I really like the sliding feature in Motorola Droid and amazing look.
NEWS Iphones immune to jailbreaking

http://www.unwiredview.com/2009/10/14/latest-iphone-3gs-shipped-by-apple-seem-to-be-immune-to-jailbreaking/
Can this device be used as a USB Wireless Broadband modem (like the Verizon UM175)? If so, any adapters/devices required to use the Droid as a modem? Just need to gain wireless connectivity through the Droid to my desktop (I already have a Verizon account) Appreciate any help, thanks
It definitely has an early 2000s look to it. Maybe it’ll be like the Thinkpad of phones, which is not a bad thing at all.
ahhh – good way to think about it – i love my thinkpad, super-fast and a real workhorse. its a tank but gets the job done. Will i love my droid the same way?
I would never give up my iPhone, but the Droid’s pretty cool
Ha, this phone is not nearly close to some other devices on the market, nor is the iPhone. If i can only use google talk what sense does it make to have this. Maybe I don’t want to use google talk and would like to use yahoo messenger. WEAK!!!
P.S. pictures suck too on it, just so you know MP’s don’t make a picture better people.
