Technically the iPhone already multitasks its core applications: phone, mail, safari, and ipod. And the Droid only allows for 6 multitasked apps (if I'm not mistaken), releasing the earliest opened app once that six limit has been reached. So what's the big deal anyway? :) Like the commercial goes... let's see the Droid let you do all that while on the phone with someone. LOL Stop being a VZ crybaby and get an iPhone already. You all know damn well if VZ had the iPhone, over half of these Droid users wouldn't be here complaining about how the iPhone sucks... because they would OWN ONE!

Well if you jailbreake your Iphone then you can actually multi-task and the Lock screen can be altered as well. I have downloaded something called "Android Lock." It lets you draw a pattern on your lockscreen to unlock it.

I find this article fair and balanced. The review of the Motorola Droid Vs the iPhone in this article passed my check list. Over the past 3 years i have switched from one phone to the next trying to keep current with upgrading my techie gadgets as the android phone advancements release. Side kick to Blackberry to Trio to iPhone to Droid. The bottom line is to find a phone that suits you. I favor the Droid. Remember almost any one can learn how to use a techie device over time. My 5 year old daughter started using the iPhone at age four with no training. The droid is the first phone release by Verizon in the last 3 years that can keep up with AT&T. As the tech world of cell phones advance costing more money to design and upgrade platforms and cell sites, we have to ask our self's one question. Will computers soon be replaces with smart-phones. I believe the answer is yes! Due to nano technology all devices are getting smaller and smaller. Its better for the average everyday cell phone user to start learning how to use smart-phone's now so when the next generation of phone's is released you will know how to dial 911. Knowledge is power! Enjoy your smart-phone and learn to use it. Otherwise ask your self, why did you buy it in the first place?

It's interesting that the above review covers about everything except phone quality and ease of use of the phone. Silly me, I thought it was a phone, first and foremost.

My wife and I each got a Droid 30 days ago. At the end of 29 days, we took them back to Verizon and gave them back (minus $70 for re-stocking). Everything the reviewer said above is true. I LOVED many of the great, easy and fast features. However, as a phone, we both agreed it sucked for two reasons. The voice quality was never great. About 50% of the time the voice quality was so bad we couldn't understand other callers. I left a voice mail for my dad on his land line and he called back later saying he knew it was me, but couldn't understand a word I said. The other problem was that I had to access 5 screens in order to place a call--a terrible distraction while trying to drive (I know...I shouldn't do that anyway, but....). My opinion is that if you want a PHONE, this ain't it. If you want a mini computer, it's great! I'm stuck with Verizon (but I like their network), so I went back to my old flip phone (which is JUST a phone) until I can find out what works best as a Smart PHONE --with emphasis on BOTH parts of that term.

The only reason that AT&T doesn't service the droid is cuz they don't service any CDMA (code division multiplexing algorithom) phones
they only service tdma or (time division multiplexing phones) I don't exactly know the difference between the two cuz I'm only 11. And it's not like AT&T is gonna re-build their entire network just to service one phone, no matter how good it is.

iPhone with 93K+ apps would have to be the better pic. Droid also seems more targeted towards teens. I can run several different types of stock trading platforms on the iPhone.

ALERT: I AM 100% pro iphone and anti droid... everything the iphone lost or tied I will convince you other wise...

LOOKs the iphone is thinner has chrome and droid... whats with that useless lip?

Navigation... its tom tom's fault they weren't ready with there new updated it will have everything the droid has plus smart routes, tom tom store to buy voices and stuff + droid doesn't give your mph

Lock screen I think iphone should get the nod cause jailbreaking isn't illegal and intellascreen is better then anything the droid has... plus the silent switch is awesome....

Battery Life I give the lean to the iphone because the droids only gets worse with there multi tasking and there are more battery cases for iphone which is more practical then a carrying around a swappable battery...

customization... I'd give it to the iphone for 1 jailbreaking is 10000x customizable and all the cases and accessories for the iphone

Camera.. apples auto focus and video editing make it better plus the higher quality apps in the app store

the screen... its hard but since all iphone screens and ipodT screens are the same it makes the phone better network externality its not all about rez... all android phones have slitly different screens... osxm are the same that matters

Multi-tasking... its gums up the ram and its not as simple as the iphone wich you praise for simplicity you can't have it both ways... plus the native apps play in the background ipod+ gunnies play list

When expanding on the 'Multi-tasking' aspect of the two devices, they forgot to point out the fact of the iPod capabilit of the iPhone. Now, before I get flamed, I realize it is not the same as the radio being able to run in the back ground, just the fact that this review totally skipped over that aspect really raises temper. This review, created by an 'unbiased person' needs to do more thorough and check things down to the last detail.

I purchased the 3GS as well as the MotoDroid. I am stuck in a 2-year contract with AT&T, or else I'd switch over the the Droid.
A few factors that are not addressed here that are HUGE benefits of the Android phone:
1. iMusic: you can listen to and download nearly ANY song for free. Apple will never support an App that eats into its iTunes revenues or which might be used to break IP/DRM laws.
2. AT&T's coverage truly sucks in comparison to Verizons. I have more than double the dropped calls on my iPhone.
3. iTunes: I personally hate the iTunes interface. It is not as intuitive as a web-based interface, and does not give you the file-management freedom of a windows-style interface.

I can't stand physical keyboards on phones... too small. But I can certainly see why a lot of people do like them. Virtual keyboards take some getting used to. But I have excellent AT&T 3G reception everywhere I go the most and being a former Verizon customer for over 10 years, it's been a significant improvement over Verizon's 3G. Verizon may have superior 3G coverage (can't argue that), but AT&T's is simply better and faster. Hell even Edge has worked faster for me in some cases.

It could just be the areas I'm in or network congestion but I've always had issues with Verizon. The aggressive ad campaigns by both providers are funny but don't mean anything to those who have poor quality service. :) There is a Verizon tower about 3 blocks from my house too. They just installed it about 2 years ago and it helped a little but it's nothing compared to the 3G service I'm getting from AT&T.

I'll go with the Droid for 2 reasons:

1. My service is with Verizon, which has the best reception wherever I am.

2. I don't text much, but when I do, I need the keyboard.

I've actually had ample time to play around with the Droid and I really like it... but I'm not going to give up my iPhone just to switch back to Verizon for the Droid.

My 2 biggest concerns, no multi-touch (yet) and absolutely NO support for Corporate Data security (native that is)! If you're looking to implement remote wipe through an Exchange server in the event of a lost or stolen phone... forget about it. It does not work and is even mentioned as such on Motorola's support forums. This feature might be added in the future but as of now you're stuck using 3rd party software which, technically, only opens up this security hole even more. There are a few sites out there that claim remote wipe through Exchange is supported and works but they're simply lying. Our Motorola rep put us in contact with one of the engineers and they said it was NEVER added as a feature and probably never will unless a stronger request base is established (not to mention all the red tape involved with M$). :) You can't even force the Droid to always require a password for Corporate Email through Exchange. That seems very strange to me.

If it weren't for these 2 downfalls I would probably pick one up. The device itself is slightly sluggish too... definitely no where near the smoothness of the iPhone OS (and that's not an opinion BTW... you can see for yourself in any YouTube video of the Droid).

Yeah, sure, Android developers are cringing at the number of iPhones out there, and might as well just give up. After all, that's just what Apple did last year, right, when they managed to take the number three spot (6.5% of the world market), versus RIM (11.5%) and Nokia (52%). Or maybe Apple just did it a little better, and increased their installed base.

But a little prespective... Apple announced 45 million devices sold this summer, but that's iPhones and iPod Touches, not all iPhones. And that doesn't represent the installed base, either... iPhones get replaced, like regular phones. Also consider... there are about a billion phones sold every year, worldwide. So the iPhone is still a tiny presence. There were 100 million Symbian smart phones shipped... as of November, 2006. About 90 million of these ship every year, these days, the Nokia's forcasting over 100 million in 2010. Currently, Apple's up to about 20 million a year, iPhones alone (iPods do add to the applications base, of course).

Are the iPhone people so worried about the vastly suprior installed base of Symbian/Nokia? Probably not.. they think think the iPhone is this juggernaut (and in the USA, it's certainly outsold Symbian)... and no, they're not worried.

Android fans have the same belief, based on the fact that every major cell phone company other than Palm, Apple, and RIM are working on Android products (Nokia hasn't shown a phone yet, but they are demonstrating Android tablets). Apple didn't have a smart phone at all in 2006, now they're doing 20 million... give Android a few years. They will catch up.
