So you’ve lurked the blogs, watched the unboxing, and read the coverage, and you just know: you want your Droid. You already know that most Verizon Stores are opening the doors a bit early at 7 AM to get your your fix – but what if you want it even earlier?

We just got word that a very, very limited number of Verizon stores will start peddling the Droid as soon as the clock ticks over to November 6th, from midnight to 2 a.m. The emphasis here is definitely on “limited”.

As far as we’ve confirmed so far, there’s only one store doing the midnight sale, and it’s right in the heart of New York. If you’re anywhere near the store (located at 134 W 34TH St, New York), go get your camping gear ready; there’s nothing like getting the object of your desire at midnight, excitedly playing with it for 2 minutes, and then caving to the utter exhaustion that standing out in the freezing cold midnight air will cause.

  • Looks like I’m going to New York… Or I might have one of my friends buy it for me, send it down to FL, and I’ll pay him back….pretty good idea… Posted to my blog:

  • I called my local VZW store and they are opening the doors at 7:00 am but the are setting up appointments, kinda like some vip stuff, goodbye env 1 hello droid…..

  • I’d get a Droid if I didn’t balk at the $70/month for unlimited voice/data plan. That’s just highway robbery! Yeah I know the iPhone has the same issue. Let me know when I can get it for $10/month UNLIMITED.

    • $10/month for what exactly? As a bundle, absolutely will never happen so get a better paying job – aka go to college. As a plan feature, such as texting, data, calling… well texting is already like $10 for just about unlimited with Verizon. Even the $5 is pretty good. You’ll get next to nothing for calling for $10 and Data won’t be even $15, half of what it is now, for at the very least another 5 years.

I agree that $70 is a bit much though, but I never use calling so…

What you could do is get the messaging only plan. It’s $35 for regular phones or $55 for smart phones. You get unlimited EVERYTHING except calling. Calling is 40 cents a minute for the $35 and 20 cents for the $55. It’s not directly advertised on Verizons website though, you have to look towards the bottom of the page.

      • Something to think about folks….the way I see the extra $$$ associated with data plans. Before I got my android phone I would always have a PC running at my house 24/7 for checking email and doing quick google searches. Now I just use the phone.

I’m too lazy to really go back and look at my bills but I MUST be saving some $$$ on power bills now that I don’t have a computer/monitor burning all the time.

        think aboot it…

  • Two logo’s, just in case you missed the first one? What the fuck is with Verizon and doing that to EVERYTHING they own? They feel the need to slap their logo on everything and everywhere. It’s so annoying. Like on my phones software in areas that are completely pointless to place a logo. I know what phone I’m using?? Why are you taking up my screen space to tell me?

  • Pogue just reviewed the Droid.

“apps have to be stored in a 560-megabyte chunk of built-in memory”

I haven’t seen this posted from any other reviewer.

To me this is a massive fail for this device. You would have to be pretty stupid to buy a device with such a small amount of system & app memory.

    • Remember — android apps don’t use the main system memory to store relevant data…that all goes on the memory card.

An app….a smartly programmed app….will make use of that.

  • Thanx for the valuable information. This was just the thing I was looking for, the Droid seems worth buying…. keep posting. Will be visiting back soon.
