We’re not sure how wide spread it is (Update: seems to only be effecting California. ), but I’m seeing a whole lot of reports that Verizon’s 3G data network is down in various parts of the country. The majority of the reports seem to be coming out of the SF Bay Area and South Bay. While the handsets are reporting full 3G signal, no data seems to be piping in our out. Might the success of the Droid in the Silicon Valley have tipped things over, a la AT&T’s iPhone woes?
We’ve got a note into Verizon, so we’ll update once we get official word. In the mean while, go ahead and drop a comment and let us know whether or not the data is flowing where you are. Also mention what handset you’re using – an odd number of the reports seem to be coming from Droid users, but this may just be coincidence.

Just did a mobile speed test at dslreports of a 1MB file and got 417 kbit/sec
Right down in the FiDi too
Seems to be fine in the DC Area…Did a speedtests today and getting between 1MB and 2MB depending if I am in VA or MD… didn’t go to DC today
No problems in Iowa.
I called into Verizon and the operator said that it is only in California (lucky us). But going on 7 hours with no internet does not make me happy. iDidn’t have this problem on my iPhone.
was that last bit necessary? seriously
Yes…. Yes it was.
AT&T had issues but I was never with out mobile internet for this long. Don’t get me wrong I like my Droid better than my iPhone, but I also take CalTrain between SF and SJ and I need my mobile internet.
fair enough
I looks like it might be coming back up. I now have the slower service, and my phone retrieved its first email in hours.
haha i thought it was well played.
Working fine in Santa Barbara, CA
No problems at all here in Orange County
Could this be model specific? None of my Verizon blackberry friends are having issues.
oh, in the SF area all the way to Fremont.
There is also up and down connectivity in land line based traffic not just 3g, Verizon DSL has been off and on in Los Gatos all day. Signal lock is on just no network, probably related to server reroute and reboots.
Yes, Verizon has an alert out for California for broadband and mobile data networks. I called 611 and was on the phone for 20minutes then they passed me over to tech support which informed me of the alert. Mobileweb is not working on my phone due to this issue.
Working great in Glendale, CA
works fine on my crackberry in sf
Looks like they fixed the problem. My Droid is plowing through the internet once again.
No problems on Droid in Oakland, using it on and off since 6am PST.
BTW a timestamp on posts would be cool in general, and *really useful* on posts like this one.
I have a Droid down in San Diego and everything is fine here.
Just called Verizon…
ticket open from Marin to Salinas…
They said should be corrected by tonight…
Here in central LA, did not notice any problems at all throughout the day. Using an Omnia (Windows)
Why doesn’t Verizons 3g work properly?
There’s a map for that.
i live in san francisco and have the droid. i haven’t been able to use the web on it since i woke up on the 19th… STILL not working…
Still a problem in San Jose. Just called VZW. At first the technician said everything was fixed, but he double-checked and confirmed that it’s not. No ETA. He said they probably needed to “swap out a card”. Sounds like the FAA.
It’s been over 2 days for me, and I’m losing patience. As they’re so fond of pointing out, it’s the network, stupid.
well i can verify that i have LG Versa with verizon and the 3g network is not working in my area (san berdino/High desrt ca, Phelan ca). i just got the phone Saturday even with uesing dail-up on the phone it about 200 kbps but i hope thay get this fixed.
