Sprint has pushed out an over-the-air firmware update for its popular HTC Hero ‘droid handset. Unfortunately, it has nothing to do with Android 2.0, but it does purportedly fix a pesky SMS bug which has been causing battery drain issues. Oh, and it also helps your favorite Hero play nice with daylight saving time. But apparently, that’s just about all the update does.
If for some reason you didn’t get the 1.56.651.2 update automagically: go to Settings > About > System Updates > Firmware Update. Please let us know if you uncover any other interesting updates/fixes in the comments, you know, for the kids.

My battery is draining as fast,if not faster.I had to uninstall the messaging program and go back to Handcentsms. Anyone else still suffering from battery drain?
No issues for me. Awake time issue is gone! I like the mute and speakerphone buttons on the in-call screen. They used to be buried in the menus.
The device is OTA but it not automatic. The user has to update the device.
I am really looking for Android 2.0 official update from Sprint and not the intermediate one.
On The HTC Hero u can’t switch the notification sound! Not even from one factory sound to another…let me kno if u encounter the same problem
I found that before the update, any photos that I would save from Backgrounds application would not save on the phone to update your backgrounds; it would however save them onto the SD card but they wouldn’t render as an option for a wallpaper.
After the update, this issue is corrected and all saved images are readily available for changing and updating phone.
