Hot on the heels of the launch of their Dragon Dictation app (and a short-lived and mostly overblown privacy scandal), Nuance has just launched a second iPhone application: Dragon Search.

Heralded by Nuance as the “fast, accurate, and smart way to search online content on your iPhone”, Dragon Search allows iPhone users to search across Google, Yahoo!, Bing, iTunes, Twitter, Wiki, or YouTube by speaking their search terms.

Dragon Search is powered by the Dragon NaturallySpeaking engine, just as with Nuance’s other offering. If you’re having good luck with Dragon Dictation, you should see similar results here.

The design of the application is rather clever; while you’re only shown one search engine’s results at a time, you can flip between them on a whim via the carousel at the top. You can search for Dr. Dre’s Wikipedia page, then flip over a few boxes on the carousel to check out Dre’s music videos videos on YouTube.

Like the Dragon Dictation app, Nuance is saying that the app is available for free for “a limited time”. We’re not sure when they’re planning to bump it up to for-pay, nor the price they’ll charge – but in the meanwhile, you can nab it here for the always-welcome price of free: App Store link.

  • And, just like Dragon Dictation, it’s not available on the iPod touch. What gives? I have the 3G that includes a mic. :(

  • any benefits to this over the voice search available on the Google App? Better voice recognition?

  • Better solution: Get an Android phone. Voice search is built in. No extra apps required.

    • Plus, there are a ton of apps already if you want to use the core voice recognition elsewhere. I’ve been using voice instead of keyboard on my phone all year.

    • If android’s voice search is anything like the one on iphone Google app, then the Dragon Search App is leaps and bounds ahead of that.

The google voice search get maybe 10% of my input right. Dragon search has so far got everything right, even my home address.

  • Is this available for the Mac?

  • this is a really slick app, but it has a major problem searching for non english words – like company names or product names.. or even just uncommon first and last names.

the google search app uses the same technology, but apparently a wider database of words, since it has the power of google’s search term database behind it.

i really wish dragon search was that good, since it is so simple, fast, slick and very accurate with standard english.. but its limited dictionary is its downfall.

  • Both this app and Dragon Dictation don’t seem to be available in the UK app store. This is really annoying, but hopefully they’ll be available eventually.

  • WoW , dein Blog ist echt übel stark Respekt das sieht man echt selten weiter so .
Achso zum Post es gibt aber noch weiter Apps mit Spracherkennung ;)
