We just did some live video from the Palm lounge where we saw the Pixi and Pre Plus, two improvements to the current WebOS line-up. Notable points? The 3D gaming was quite impressive and the design has been considerably improved in this iteration.
For one, there is no button on either device. Instead, you get a visual cue when in multi-tasking mode that allows you to tap to enter the home screen and slide to move back and forth. The devices have 16GB of memory and are Touchstone inductive charger plates built-in, which means you can use the Touchstone charger without changing the plates.
This model also includes WiFi built-in for both models.
We can expect these to drop on January 25th on Verizon, an interesting development.

Don’t really care about the Pixi Plus, but I’m about to **** myself over the Pre Plus (It might be a little early for that).

This is good news indeed. I have a Palm Centro and would like to upgrade to Wifi. Hopefully you can get the Pixi without extra cost data plans.
Nice near quoting of Ferris Bueller by Palm.
“Life moves pretty fast. You don’t stop and look around once in awhile, you could miss it.”
I thought that was pretty cool, too.
I am really excited about the Palm Pre [plus] coming to Verizon. I want to dump AT&T (as my iPhone), and I have been looking at the Pre. As soon as it hits shelves, bye bye AT&T.
I have been a Palm fanboy forever. I have the first palm, but I forget what it was called :(
Wasn’t it called the Palm Personal?
I always loved palm. It somehow always knew how to make me feel better. If im down i grabbed MY device
and I would happily start playing with it.
Palm you are the best.
Have they removed the cheese slicer function from the Pre?
That sharp edge around the keyboard was killer on the first iteration of the Pre. Definitely would like to look at these once they are available. Seems like Verizon is really stepping it up trying to get more phones in that people want. I’m also very glad that Verizon’s statement that all of their future smartphones would have WiFi was true. Making me very happy to stick with Big Red.
John, some of us were talking the other day and we decided that using the term “drop” to describe a launch or release of something is getting very old.
You are welcome to keep using it…just wanted to let you know how the rest of us are thinking.
Thanks!
I have the current Palm Pre and it sucks compared to my friends’ i-Phones. I can’t compare it to any Android phone because no one in my circle has one or at least is bragging about having one.
The biggest reason the Palm Pre sucks is NO VIDEO CAMERA!! It plays video and it takes photos but there is NO VIDEO CAMERA!!
I blame myself for falling for the Palm Pre hype and sadly assuming any modern smartphone would have a video camera. After all, the Palm Centro and Treo had video cameras, and who would expect a product line to actually REGRESS!!!
And the lack of apps is the other big factor for me not recommending the Palm Pre
Palm announced video recording/editing next month and you bitch about the the lack of video recording? Palm announces 3D gaming, makes available some nice ass 3D games and announces its PDK along with other app/developer initiatives and you are here bitching about apps? Stop being a tool.
“and who would expect a product line to actually REGRESS”
I agree. The Treo and Centro have media card slots and the Pre does not. Not smart.
If you go on precentral.net there’s an app called precoder for the video camera . And there’s always Preware . Honestly , there’s not much that the iPhones does that Pre doesn’t do too .
webos is awesome – really enjoy using it everyday.
I love my Pre more and more with each update.
