I could really write this post in all of about eleven words, and it would still have the same effect. It’d go something like this “Apple, leak, new iPhone OS, screenshots, multitasking, banshees, multi-touch gestures”. However, I’m from the Internet, and we’re paid by the word* around these parts.
To make a short story long, one of Boy Genius’ “connects” (a word which he’s trying his damnedest to make trendy) came through with an alleged screenshot of iPhone OS 4.0 and some details. The screenshot is just trivial enough to seem a bit shaky, though BG says the source is trusted.
What the source had to say:
- Multi-touch gestures are being incorporated throughout the OS
- There will be a “few new ways” to run applications in the background.
- Plenty of UI changes were put in place to make using the OS more efficient.
- Sadly, the rumor indicates iPhone OS 4.0 will be iPhone 3G/3GS only. iPhone 1 owners, it’s time to retire your piece.
- “Brand new syncing” capabilities for the calendar/contacts system.
As with almost every Apple rumor in the history of ever, the details are just vague enough — but also just enticing enough — to pique everyone’s interest without revealing a damn thing. Churn on, rumor mill – churn on.
* Not really.

“Sadly, the rumor indicates iPhone OS 4.0 will be iPhone 3G/3GS only. iPhone 1 owners, it’s time to retire your piece.”
OS Fragmentation!
Reading the article, I think the most possible case is what Mr. Sachs of bloomberg had stated, that iPhone will have a 5mp cam and some updates to the OS.
Apple has been very good of concealing their product to the curious cats — I’m talking about their tablet — even just a week from the official statement all we have are rumors only.. http://bit.ly/apple-tablet-details-compiled
Its starting to became clear, that it is on these rumors Apple makes their product unveiling more exciting (They use anticipation to build a tremendous longing for their products)
Big deal– so users of a 2+ year old iPhone can’t update to the latest OS… can you say the same for the G1 users?
The word “Connects” as it relates to sources of information or items has been a cool term for the past decade.
Where have you been Greg?
Hmmm, I think and OS upgrade is long overdue and I’m not sure why they can’t get these released more quickly now.
Do you think that the update will be available for the first generation iPod Touch? Oh well…
iPhone 1 and iPhone 3G is basically the same hardware except for the 3G chip. I don’t think they’ll stop supporting iPhone 1.
I don’t get the point of this kind of screenshot. It can easily be faked and tells us nothing except that an update will eventually be released, which we all know anyway.
If you are going to leak something leak a screenshot of the new supposedly awesome homescreen
