HTC cranks out Android handsets like candy corn – and we love that. The only downside to this, however, is that each new leak has us drooling before the last leak even has time to become a real product.
Our salivary glands were just warming up for the HTC Incredible and the HTC Legend, but now we’ve got the HTC Scorpion (possibly codenamed “Olympian”) to dream about. According to the very-latest of leaks, this thing might pack a scorchingly fast 1.5 Ghz processor and the as-of-yet unreleased Android v2.2.
The emphasis in that last sentence, though, should be placed on “might”. We’re by no means 100% convinced this thing exists. Someone hooked the guys over at AndroidSpin up with what is reportedly a build file from this “Scorpion” device. The catch here, is that this leak is purely text – no images, no video, and thus, nothing tough to fake.
We’ve dumped the full text of the build file below, but here’s what caught our eye:
- ro.product.board=cortex1.5ghz: Here’s the mention of the 1.5Ghz chip. Qualcomm just announced that they’d be making a 1.5Ghz Snapdragon chipset last month, and they’re not expected to hit devices for months – but if anyone had an engineering sample or two, it’d be HTC.
- ro.product.model=HTC Olympian and ro.product.name=htc_scorpion: The names believed to be the internal codename and the tentative sales name.
- wimax.interface = tiwlan0: WiMax!
- ro.build.id=FRE65C: Google names their builds after sweets, alphabetically. The Nexus One has the latest build, “Eclair”, with a build ID of “ERE27″. The next build is codenamed “Froyo”.

1.5ghz is the fastest on the market at the moment.
Indeed yes, it’s even faster at the HTC Obsession a.k.a First HTC WinMo 7 model phone. Pumping up with only 1.3GHz. More details: http://bit.ly/htc-obsession-details
It may be called the HTC Scorpion (possibly codenamed “Olympian”), and it’s allegedly packing a 1.5GHz Snapdragon processor.
HTC’s all-new phone may be running Android 2.2 as well as be equipped with WiMax support, on top of a bone-crushing 1.5Ghz Snapdragon processor.
New info: http://bit.ly/htc-scorpion-leaked-picture
@Tech
Incorrect, 1.0ghz is the fastest on the market at the moment.
“ro.home.ui.sense.=0″
No Sense UI maybe?
But what about “ro.home.ui.defualt.=0″ what would that mean? (“default” is spelt wrong. :P)
Looking forward to updates on this phone!
Great news – hmmm, maybe I got an old computer, the stairs down, I think he got 1.3 GHz…
I don’t see anything that gives dimensions…unless I missed something. For all we know this could be a tablet. A 1.5 Ghz processor would be great for a tablet with good graphics, 1080p video, say 7-10in screen.
A few lines that got me wondering is
ro.sf.lcd_density=240 And
ro.build.description=1.47.3.2 CL2***** test-keys
Looking at this
ro.board.platform=qsd8672 I wonder if this means its going to be 8.6″X7.2″ which would be a good size for a tablet.
BUT this ro.build.modelid=DF4732
Could be a good size for a phone 4.7″X3.2″
I’m just stretching here.
The qsd8672 is a Snapdragon Chipset, which points to this being a dual-core 1.5 GHz processor.
http://www.qctconnect.com/products/snapdragon.html
Its listed as an “mdpi” all tablets especially high-res ones would be “hdpi”
Forgot to add that since its says
ro.sf.lcd_density=240dpi
I would guess its another 3.7 inch 800×480 device since the dpi the nexus one is at.
Anything in there mentioning a keyboard? :)
@Seth – I hope so. Only reason I may go with the Motorola over the current HTC is the keyboard.
keys
keyguard.no_require_sim=1
seems to point toward a tablet/netbook structure, meaning it would run without a sim card, or i could be off, but thats what i got from the text
maybe not, a quick google (which should have been done before the last comment) indicates that the no_require_sim=1(or true) seems to be common in android builds, meaning its probably not related in the way i think
can any of you please recommend which smartphone to get. I have been engrossed in research and need help! I do like the iphone…but AT&T has terrible reception in my area so I must stay with Verizon. I am a huge user of Windows for documents, Outlook etc….for business and email. I want lightening fast browser for web browsing, email, FB, Twitter, and all the fun stuff everyone else wants…only smartphone I have had was the Treo700w ages ago….HELP!! No BB for sure. Do I wait to see if iPhone goes Verizon, get and HTC Touch Pro 2, Motorola Droid,,,,I am soooo confused…..I guess I want the best of all worlds!! Is that too much to ask?? LOL
So when is the release date?
yes,,,when is release date?
No double-sided video camera == Not from Krypton. It’s time for handheld mobile video calls, or it’s Still Borked. ;-)
