Man! Just this morning, we were looking at the Nokia N900 and thinking to ourselves, “Damn! If only this could run a 15 year old operating system, it would be perfect!

And just like that, our calls were answered.

We’re not sure why you’d ever want to do this (beyond “Because I can”, of course) but now you know: if you want to run Windows 95 on the N900, you can go right ahead. You’ll need an IMG file of a Windows 95 live cd and a copy of the x86 emulator DosBox – but once you’ve acquired those through whatever means you’re using, you can just follow this guide.

Let us know how Duke Nukem runs, won’t you?

  • Hot diggity! The Nokia N900 has been getting a ton of hacker publicity lately. Controller a PS3, being controlled by a PS3 controller, and now this! I think it really speaks to the awesomeness of the N900. I know it made me go see how much they are, and I usually use an iPhone. I hope this trend keeps up, or extends over to the iPhone. Enough with the shit apps Rock and Cydia, I only want useful, fun stuff!

  • Oh you need a reason? Four words: Portable Incredible Toon Machine!

  • Duke Nukem 3D is already available as a standalone app on the N900. You can actually control his movements with the accelerometer as well. It’s full of win.

  • I have been the proud owner of the N900 for nearly a month now. I also own an HTC Magic and think the N900 is a far superior phone. I am a Linux user (Linux Mint and Sabayon) on my computers and love how open this phone is.

I am still playing with the phone and learning but am getting to grips with it. I have added the testing repo which has opened up a lot more to play with.

Look forward to chatting to all the other N900 users at http://www.NokiaN900Forum.net this really does feel like an enthusiasts phone, not just another run of the mill handset.
