The world is all a buzz over Google’s new social networking service

Over-sharing the minutiae of your life is already difficult, so why complicate things with Twitter, Facebook and Foursquare when you only need one service to rule them all? That’s where Google Buzz comes in and makes annoying your friends with news about your snacking habits that much easier.

Google Buzz is rolling out today, and over the next few days it should appear in everyone’s Gmail accounts. With Buzz, you can share status updates, images and videos like you can on social networking sites like Facebook, but it’s more streamlined in Buzz. Videos play within status messages and images pop open into a gallery for quick stalking browsing.

It might seem overwhelming and unnecessary when you’re already using so many other social networking services, but Buzz allows you to integrate Picasa, Flickr, Twitter and your Google Reader so you can be as transparent as ever right in one place. And, of course, I’d imagine that the bulk of our sharing takes place while on the go, so there is a mobile version, too. For now, let me step aside and have Google explain the new service along with how the mobile version works.

  • i dont seem to have the google buzz feature yet is it cause i live in s.a? is this only availible in the USA or certain countries?

  • If you have an Android phone, just go to the Market and update Google Maps!

I updated a few hours ago and BOOM, there it was. (In Layers)

  • Seeing google buzz and google wave pumping some action for your mobile phone is equal to ‘the bomb!” http://bit.ly/google-wave-why-should-you-use-it

Hopefully this could spike a new frontier for social-networking sites.

  • Phew! At last! Something interesting to Tweet, share on Facebook, Digg and MyEmptySpace.

  • Google is going about it all wrong !! If the guys at Google Ventures would respond to my emails then they would be very happy they did. (Not great, Great Customer Service). My idea is going to change social networking in a way that has not been done yet. Facebook will have to redo their entire site to compete. My idea consists of giving people what they want. Making the world more green, help the economy, all while connecting people in new ways. How ? I am not telling. This week I am writing Google Ventures and Google Inc. Corporate Management letters (no emails) in the hopes they will be smart enough to give me 1/2 hour of their time. I will be calling them the following week. You Google NEED to listen to me, it would be a very wise decision. Sincerely, Lance Damon Bliss

You too? I have an idea that will revolutionize social media, search, and mobile applications! The idea is based on being smart.
I’ve tried talking to Google… they won’t listen. Nor will Yahoo, or Microsoft!

When will these companies listen to guys like us that have all the answers?

      Sincerely,
      Guy Incognito

      • Doesn’t turning on Buzz allow all your email contacts to see all your other email contacts? So your boss can see the headhunter you’re talking to, the girl you’re dating can see the other girls you’re dating, your client can also see you’re working for the competition and so on.

At least opting out only requires manually removing each of your contacts from buzz, for me that’s almost 1100 people, sounds like fun!

  • There is indeed a lot of ‘buzz’ about this new Google social network system, but will it take off? And Google have failed in the past before. Read this report and see what you make of it – http://www.themusicvoid.com/2010/03/buzz-makes-it-easy-to-share-a-little-too-much/
