Not a lot of other information other than now the exploit is in the Dev Team’s hands and they will, like some creaky Soviet politburo, release the unlock to the masses.
NB. This will unlock the iPhone for use on T-Mobile and foreign GSM networks. This does not mean you’ll be able to use it on Sprint or Verizon, so don’t ask.

No way they will release this. There is nothing wrong with the current unlock and if you upgrade via PwnageTool you don’t lose your unlock.
What they will likely do is keep this unlock to themselves in hopes that Apple won’t find it and they will be able to unlock at 4.0 and beyond.

Part of the copyright code, Section 1201 of the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, makes it illegal to break digital locks to get at copyrighted works. Unlocking an iPhone consists of installing software that specifically uses reverse engineering to develop a way to override digital protections placed in copyrighted code built into the iPhone.
You can justify it all you like by whatever method you wish but it is illegal, the degree of which is arguable. Just because you like to fidle (sic) with things doesn’t make it okay.

Now please note, to my belief, this can not apply to non GSM carriers such as Verizon or Sprint. The phones simply will not work in these band and format. Note VZW and Sprint use CDMA and GSM uses TDMA.

Actually, you’ll find that the DCMA has a clause allowing you to circumvent protections for PERSONAL use. So, you can unlocked your own phone using this software, you can’t however go into business unlocking other people’s phones. Just like you can remove the DRM on an MP3 to make it work on your mp3 player, but can’t remove it and then share the file with the world.
Why the dig at the Dev Team? They release high-quality tools. I was able to jailbreak my 3.1.3 ‘phone using their Pwnage 3.1.5 tool. Smooth as silk (although I did have to restore to 3.1.2).

HI Apple Hater. I am likely to agree with you. Up to 2008 I was pro PC and anti Mac. Then I got the iPhone and Microsoft came out with Vista. I bought a POS computer with Vista and in two weeks I returned it for one with XP, which I still use to this day. I am due for a new laptop at the end of the year. I was going to buy a mac but due to apples loyalty to AT&T I think I am going to buy another Vaio. I think Apple should realize that they are going to loose business across the board (phones, computers, etc.) with their loyalty to AT&T.

RIM(Blackberry) phones are carried by most major cellphone service companies around the world. The Blackberry is the most sold phone on the market. Companies that do not sell BLackberry’s generally are either small companies or companies that resell the larger cell companies service under a different name.
Apple sells the Iphone across the globe. If VZW and the other companies were not CDMA they would most likely be carrying the Iphone after the CONTRACT between AT&T and Apple expires.
But as you have stated already they run a different technology then GSM.
Which leads to the point of, why would Apple create a version of the Iphone which would only be used on a small fraction of the total market in which they are involved in? Because its simply not cost effective.

i am forced to upgrade to 3.1.3 because my iphone 3.1.2 does not booting anymore.and the technician said in order to open my iphone again i have to upgrade it to 3.1.3…and indeed it does.but now i lost my jailbreak and unlock.now its like an ipod touch with paid apps on it.i think they will release the unlock on June 22 or onwards (but i dont know if its true).they will release it upon the release of OS 4.0 and iphone 4G.

I unlocked my iphone 3gs 3.1.3 BB 5.12.01….of coarse to jailbreak my phone i used spirit jailbreak.then i got cydia…then in cydia go to sources and add this repo…http://repo666.ultrasn0w.com…be careful with the spelling…it is “zero” not “o” in ultrasn0w..then after installing it search for ultrasnow and install it…lastly reboot your fone and it is already unlock….i hope this will help. =)
