Online music service Grooveshark is today announcing the launch of a native app for devices running Palm webOS, or in other words the Palm Pre and Pixi phones.
With the app, Grooveshark users gain access to its vast on-demand song catalog – the number of tracks in there runs in the millions – but also to the personal playlists and favorites they and other users have cultivated on the kick-ass music service.
The app should be available ‘very soon’, according to the startup, although VIP users (who pay $3/month) can get early access.
The native Palm app will complement Grooveshark’s mobile offering, which to date includes apps for Android and Blackberry devices.
Its iPhone app, in the meantime, was said to have been finished for release back in July 2009. So far, there’s been no sign of an appearance in Apple’s App Store, although we hear some news about that may be coming soon.
Here’s a video from Grooveshark demonstrating the app in action. The man apologizes for his ‘oily after-dinner fingers’.

Grooveshark has an excellent service and I am sure they will carry this service in Palm webOS. This app will prove very beneficial for both concerned parties. Sales of Palm phones were down as compared to competitors and this development will get them exactly what they need “AN EDGE OVER COMPETITORS”.
Just tried Grooveshark last night, loved the service, and was hoping for a WebOS application. Fantastico!
Sounds great, but I’ll wait until Grooveshark is legal before I get excited. Perhaps that is why they started off on one of the least popular smartphones? Flying under the radar.
They aren’t flying under the radar, they’ve released an app for every mobile phone now. m.grooveshark.com
Apple is scared of losing iTunes sales and has blocked their iPhone app for over a year.
I really like using Groove Shark, would be awesome to have it on the iphone. Would be doubly awesome if I could listen to the songs offline for my iPhone touch. That seems pretty illegal though.
OK, I’m ready. Now where is the dam thing? Not in the App Catalog yet.
You can download the application by going here: http://mobile.grooveshark.com/
Mid way down the page, you will see a button asking you if you want a “sneak peak” and you can then text yourself a download link (for Grooveshark VIPs only).
Not true. If you ask for the sneak peek, you do get a text. However, when you follow the link, it only shows a form to submit your email for news updates. I am a VIP member and this is what I saw.
This is excellent!
Thumbs up! Grooveshark is one of the best online music services out there.
nice. I already have pandora and slacker installed on my pre and I’m looking forward to another competitor to choose from.
great!
and now my battery will die in 2 hrs. instead of 4.
