Do you love Android? Like, really love Android? So much so that those Android action figures just don’t seem like enough? Well, now there’s a way for you to show the world how much you really care about your favorite OS: by bringing it to bed with you.
Now, now, get your mind out of the gutter (There are no intentional innuendos anywhere in this post. Honest!). Etsy seller Craftsquatch has just started churning out the Android-themed throw pillows you see above for $19.99 a pop. If you want one of these, you may want to act fast for two reasons: A) it’s Etsy, so its handmade, thus inherently being limited edition and B) we’re guessing that, unlike the aforementioned Android toys, this use of the Android logo isn’t exactly licensed.
Are you telling me that even though Android is open source, the logo is trademarked?

That’s the case with most big open source projects. See Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/aboutus/trademarkpolicy) and Firefox (http://www.mozilla.org/foundation/trademarks/).
Open source only means just that: the source code is open. The licensing only affects the source.
I think its OK to use it, since the Android Robot is under a Creative Commons license. What you can’t reproduce however is the android logo (the robot isn’t the logo).
And what’s so surprising about that if the logo is trademarked?
Open source does not mean everything is free for all. Even the code base has protection mechanisms mentioned by commentators above.
You don’t want some companies to rip off your work and brand to come up with an “Andoid” OS right?

I like to think bed is the place I go to escape Android for 8 hours. Sleeping with it facing me on my pillow just woudn’t give me a good night’s sleep!
