HTC Incredible shown above with battery cover removed.
Verizon’s not going to be too happy about this one. From everyone we’ve spoken to, they really wanted to keep details surrounding the Android-powered HTC Incredible underwraps for a while longer. That’s understandable, given that the Incredible blows their current flagship Android device, the Motorola Droid, to smithereens on just about every count.
Alas, all it takes is one device to slip into the wrong hands — and fortunately for us, it has! A bunch of new shots of the HTC Incredible (with brand new, Verizon-brand-friendly colors) have just leaked out, and a gaggle of spec details came with it.
All of these shots and details come by way of Androidforum user/super spy NKT.
The specs confirmed so far:
- 8 megapixel camera with autofocus
- Memory: 512 MB ROM, 512 MB RAM (320 free to the user)
- Android 2.1 with HTC’s Sense UI
- Optical Trackpad
- 3.7″ WVGA (800×480) AMOLED Screen
- 1300mAH battery
- FM Tuner
- 802.11b/g WiFi
- 117.5 mm (L) x 58.5 mm (w) x 11.9 mm (T)
- 1Ghz Snapdragon processor, underclocked to 768Mhz.
Go ahead – camp out on the edge of your seat for this one. It’s easily one of the most powerful Android handsets coming to the market; it’s a wee bit less powerful than the Nexus One, but packs a beefier camera as a trade off.
What do you think? Is this the Android handset that will rule 2010?

I don’t think ANY android phone will “rule” for an entire year. Maybe a couple months, but that’s it.
damn my Droid is feeling old…
“opposite to being permanent”
If you have seen the 1st video impression of this device, then you might shout that it really is incredible. Packing along with that Snapdragon makes it more incredible.
HTC DESIRE WILL BE ONLY ONE HANDSET WHICH RULE THE WORLD!!!
This is the handset that will rule my world, at least until the next greatest comes along. Yay for phones that don’t suck on Verizon!!!
1. Put this on AT&T.
2. AT&T don’t hobble the software.
3. Google let me port my number to Voice.
4. Swear eternal allegiance to Android.
No they just block all of Android Market and tehy don’t allow non-market app installs…nope, that’s not hobbling
Yeah Mark seriously. Yahoo on backflip. That’s not hobbling software? It’s not even android! Verizon has paved the way for android to explode.
Hmm, great thing I just switched to AT&T.
I never seem to make my choice on changes at good times..
Why don’t these have A-GPS? (or do they?)?
Mark, what do you mean ATT doesn’t hobble the software? Have you seen what they did to the great Nokia E71? Or just most recently the Motorola Backflip?
I think that was a command for AT&T, as in “AT&T, don’t hobble the software!”
What exactly makes it more powerful than the nexus one ? and does it have GPS?
8 mega pixels is insane!
Well, I think two sentences in this article sum things up: “Is this the handset that will rule 2010?” and “it’s a wee bit less powerful than the Nexus One”.
Hm. Perhaps, just perhaps, I’d prefer a Nexus One. Oh, and to add insult to injury, the Incredible packs the Sense UI bloat-ware. HTC Not-So-Incredible IMO.
Nexus One really does rule the roost.
the only difference between these two phones is the the 1GHz snapdragon in the incredible is underclocked to 768MHz and the incredible has a much better camera.
it actually seems like the incredible might be the better choice…
of course the incredible specs aren’t official at this point I don’t think so I could be wrong.
As much as I like the new and upcoming Hardware the carries the Android OS, these phones still cannot game (see Gameloft.com). I mean the Pre and iDontCare have a Vram chip on board that makes gaming a breeze. When is HTC or Moto gonna get into the game? A 1Ghz chip in a phone is cool, but.. Intel just lauched a 6 core beast of a chip in the i7 980x, but if you want to game on your PC that alone is not enough as you still need a discrete Video Card or Vram for a Phone!
One thing I don’t get is the Nexus One already has a 1400mAh battery and it is not enough. The Incredible specs out as thicker so why the smaller battery. I suspect with Verizon 3g the device is going to chew up battery. 1300mAH seems to small for the unit underclocked or not.
Who cares about playing games. I just want stellar voice capability and battery life to last more than a day long of moderate use. Is that too much to ask from these phone makers?
I’m glad I took the Droid back. It was too bulky and poor performing for me. I hope this will be the Jesus Christ of Verizon Android phones.
“Jesus Christ of Verizon Android phones”?!? Android is the savior of Verizon mobile devices, and it’s only been here for less than half a year (officially). Personally, it’s about freakin’ time I’ve heard AT&T junkies whine about it. For years, I’ve had to listen to my idiot/nerd friends tell me how great Cingular/AT&T was and how VZW sucked because they cripple their phones. Now all the iPhone people are complaining that AT&T won’t let them join the free market, while VZW is doing pretty much NOTHING to these new phones other than dictate a few minor hardware changes. And after all, you STILL can’t even get a signal on AT&T in one-third of the country.
Android is Jesus, HTC is the donkey, and VZW is the palm-leaf carpet. And my upgrade date is Easter, coincidentally…
“Android is Jesus, HTC is the donkey, and VZW is the palm-leaf carpet. And my upgrade date is Easter, coincidentally…”
ha…clever.
It’s a sweet phone except the back is really ugly, why didn’t they just make it smooth and sleeker
I completely agree. They said it’s “race car inspired”, but I’ve never seen a race car that looks like that!
My Incredible should arrive in the mail in the next week or two, and I am pretty excited. And though I am well aware it will likely be out dated 3 weeks later, I am still looking forward to getting the device. It seems to me if you were to try to wait for the latest and greatest device that will remain on top for a long time, you’d never buy a mobile phone! I think it’s most sensible to simply find a phone you like, that you think has snappy performance and the features you want, and to go with it, enjoy it, and don’t worry about what your neighbors have.
