I Can Has HD?Well, this one isn’t really surprising now, is it? Mac Rumors have unearthed evidence in the latest iPhone 4.0 beta SDK that points pretty clearly to 720p video recording.

Y’see, the latest iPhone SDK allows full access to video capture data, and there are some preset values in the SDK that explicitly mention a 1280×720 video resolution.

It’s pretty clear cut evidence, so you could almost bet the house that the next iPhone is gonna have HD video recording. Given that the most prevalent of rumoured names for the upcoming iPhone is “iPhone HD” this really comes as little surprise.

Still, it’s good to have some kind of confirmation of a much-wanted feature before we get the official announcement on June 7.

  • My phone shoots HD Video right now. What is the big deal?

    • Anything the iPhone does is magical and innovative and amazing.
      (Although, it would be cool)

      • I heard that 4.1 SDK has support for 1080p 30FPS Video, 20Mpixel + 5Mpixel front camera, heartbeat monitor, 256GB internal memory and the new A5 quad-core processor from apple… I have multiple orgasms imagining Steve announcing it on the stage ohhh ahhh ohhh ahhh

    • What phone is that? As far as I know, there isn’t a phone in the US market yet that shoots HD video. None of the Android devices do. The first to do so will be the EVO on Sprint.

Yes, the HTC Incredible shoots HD.

      • Let me correct myself, I found the Samsung Instinct HD does this same 1280×720 recording, but it’s a feature phone, not a smart phone, so not really worth considering compared to a smart phone.

I haven’t found a smart phone in the US that does video in that resolution yet. To me it looks like EVO and the next iPhone will be the first. For that to be proclaimed as outdated somehow is simply not true (for the US market).

    • What mess of a phone do you have?

It’s a big deal for people interested in the iPhone because the post is about changes to the iPhone, not HD video on all phones in general. If it were I would expect your phone to be mentioned here.

      Does that make sense?

  • iPhone is a big wig in the cell phone market. Check out my review of iphone on gizmos360.com

It’s true Apple don’t really use the newest & best comments / features.

When they do make a product though it’s always very well done and after a few generations up to speed with the competition.

    • in my experience, while Apple may not always be the first to adopt new technology, when they do offer it, they’ve taken the time to get it right and you can bet your ass it will be reliable and function great without being a strain on your hardware/software.

though i’m kind of indifferent , when it comes to HD video, if I was really concerned about recording good quality video, i’d be doing it with an HD camcorder, not my phone.

However, 720P skype calls with the rumoured front facing camera might be pretty freakin nifty for some. ( i still wouldnt use it much to be honest )…

  • Why be excited with false rumors when there are a bunch of other phones from Samsung, HTC and Nokia with 720p video already announced to be launched this year. Nokia has published in youtube real shots from their 720p recording from N8, they already have the real stuff and not bullshit sponsored rumors!

    • The excitement is for customers that want to buy iPhones, and not the amateur handsets from those handset makers you mention that have been attempting to copy Apple from day 1. The Nokia N8? Lol, this thing isn’t even out and its been reviewed and not positive, Its simply cheesy junk. So, yea, some handset makers may have 720P recording, just like some people are retarded, but Apple does it right, big difference. Sure, go ahead and get your retarded version and not wait for the iPhone.

  • Oh the iPhone?

    Is it still 2009?

  • It’s about time the iphone got a decent camera.
