Are you as excited as I am about LTE and the blazing fast data speeds it promises? Sure you are. And while you’re undoubtedly holding your breath waiting for 4G service and handsets, AT&T is moving forward with field trials after announcing that Alcatel-Lucent and Ericsson will be providing its equipment. What’s in store for AT&T in the near future?

Ericsson has big plans for cell phones – big plans. Ultimately by the 2012, the company sees 100+ Mbps connection with 12-20MP cameras as you can see by the chart above. Plus, your lowly phone will be able to record HD video and sport a 1GHz CPU. So in less than four years all this is suppose to happen, Ericsson? M’kay. The megapixal camera is within reason, and even the HD video part doesn’t seem that wacky within four years, but while Euro snobs and Japanese tech geeks might see the fast data speeds, chances are we here in the States will not see those quick speeds before flying cars.

We kind of knew these two Sony Ericsson products were dropping today, and so, here are the Sony W705 Walkman phone and MBS-900 Bluetooth speaker. The quad-band W705 seems like an upgraded G705 with WiFi, YouTube access, 3.2 MP camera, and a FM radio with TrackID built-in. Plus, it has a large 2.4-inch screen along with an accelerometer for Shake Control. The whole thing is made out of a metal finish that should help this slider stand out.

Now that the Sony Ericsson XPERIA X1 has stormed European shores, eager owners are rushing to share the unboxing process with the rest of the world. The best we’ve spotted so far is that of Sweden’s Fosfor magazine – for the most part, the rest of them have been “Here’s the box.. HERE’S THE PHONE!”, skipping the oh-so-crucial step-by-step undressing.
Just a bit of good ol’ fashion gadget porn for your Friday afternoon. After playing with the X1 a few times during its development phase, I remain wary of its UI – that said, I’ve yet to play with a final build, and man, isn’t that some lovely lookin’ hardware?
Check out a few more shots after the jump, or check out Fosfor’s full gallery.

Great news for those Brits looking forward to the Sony Ericsson C905 cell phone and all the photo-centric features like GPS geo-tagging, Xenon flash, and face recognition as it should breach the UK’s shores sometime early this October. Still no word on pricing or other regions availability, but if the Internet tends to be a leaky place so that info should drip sometime soon.
Ericsson announced today that it has signed contracts with China Mobile and China Unicom. Ericsson is a wireless equipment
maker. The two contracts will expand Ericsson’s Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) networks and bag the company a hefty profit from the $1.44 billion sale.
The sale to China Mobile is by far the larger of the two, coming in at $1.3 billion. This will make Ericsson one of the main suppliers of core and radio network equipment in China. The company will also provide technical support and services and include power-saving features that reduce energy consumption in mobile networks.
The $140 million agreement with China Unicom will supply China’s second largest mobile provider with multimedia solutions for wireless access provider. Simply translated, WAP services.
Deliveries of equipment have already started and both projects are expected to be finished this year.
Massive unemployment, decades of sporadic civil war and other economic hardships aren’t enough to keep people from wanting to stay connection. Thus Zimbabwe, the landlocked southern African nation once known as Rhodesia, is looking to increase mobile subscriber capacity in the next six months.
Zimbabwe’s Econet is in the process of expanding the nation’s cellular networks, and increase subscriber carrying capacity from the current 800,000 to 1.2 million by February of next year. Econet signed contract with Ericsson and ZTE to supply equipment for the expansion.

Driven by growth in emerging Asian markets and a continued strong performance from its Sony Ericsson mobile-phone joint venture, Swedish teleco handset maker Ericsson reported a 12 percent increase in profits for the second quarter. Despite this increase it is lower than analysts had expected, in part due to softer than expected numbers from Europe and continued delays with some large multimedia profits.
Ericsson expects the GSM/WCDMA sector within the global market systems market to continue to show growth in 2007, and in June the company signed a deal with China Mobile to provide telecom-network equipment in 19 regions.

China Mobile has signed a deal with Swedish telecom company Ericsson to the tune of a billion dollars, reports TechWhack. This deal would have Ericsson supply China Mobile with the equipment to expand their coverage in the growing Asian sector, both with network capacity and performance of the service.
Under this deal Ericsson will supply China Mobile with the necessary core and radio equipment for their expansion, along with related tech support and services.

The rumor mill is working overtime. mocoNews has posted that Ericsson may be looking to acquire Motorola, and possibly restructure the company with Ericsson-Motorola devoted to a network kit, while a spun-off Motorola could focus exclusively on handset design. At this point it is just a rumor, but still an interesting rumor for sure.
